I have an acquaintance who has a very compact .300 blackout pistol, no tax stamp required, 7.5 inch barrel. The .300 blackout does better with velocities and a short barrel than the .223

This is a 7.62x39 AR pistol I built a couple of years ago;

It used multi caliber mags that looked like standard mags.
Ammo was cheap and it rode below my legs in the truck.

XACTLY what I got, love it for its designated use (home defense) and using sub sonic loads, would work equally well as a truck/auto gun and could even go to standard velocity loads.

If you want an effective short barrel round a 300 grain bullet requires a lot less velocity. I would probably go with the

350 legend, 450 bushmaster, or .458 socom. Probably leaning towards the legend for magazine capacity.

pretty easy to get sub sonic with the 300 Blackout with anything near 200 grains or more, capacity is exactly the same as the 223/556 as it uses the same magazine and the same cases size, which also might be a factor as basically all 223 /556 parts are he same as the 223/556 except the barrel. so no need to hunt down special BCG, magazines, buffers etc.

The 350 has the same advantage regarding capacity, bolt face diameter, magazines, but offers different options in regards to bullet selection than the 300.
