This may or may not be the right place for this thread - I looked all over the sight, and the closest I could find was the Sponsor section, and I don't know if RAASCO is one. So Mods, if you need to move this, by all means.
So, here is why you should never hesitate to call the fine folks at RAASCO when you want new grips for your PT1911...
My son-in-law is the one who introduced me to the PT1911 several months ago. He and my daughter love theirs, and shoot it regularly (it's an SS model). Their birthdays happen to fall within 2 days of one another, so after I ordered my PT1911, I started browsing the web, and someone in the forums here mentioned RAASCO, with the idea of getting new grips for my own. Well, way down at the bottom of the list of available grips is an option to have a 3-letter mongram placed on the grip of your choice, and that gave me a birthday plan...
I called them up, and spoke to Alan last Friday (the 9th), and threw him a curve ball. What I asked him to do was to monogram my son-in-law's 3 initials on one grip, and my daughter's on the other of the two. One set of grips, two different monograms. We talked a bit, I told him why I wanted them this way, and he thought that was an excellent idea. I then asked if I could have them by this Friday (the 16th), as I would be seeing them then, and planned to wrap each grip seperately and give them to them as birthday presents.
Though my request was unusual, and the time frame was very tight, he gave me a few grips to choose from (ones he felt were CAD-ready), and said he'd do his best. I picked a desgin I liked and placed the order.
I hadn't heard anything from them by this afternoon, so I called. Alan explained he and his wife (they are basically a two person operation) had been overwhelmed with orders, and he didn't think he could get them out on time. I was disappointed, but didn't complain or push.
A few hours later, I got an email stating that not only had he finished them, he had even shipped them Priority mail, and included a tracking number!
Folks, I don't know about you, but customer service like this just doesn't happen often enough in today's world. To say I'm impressed would be an understatement. So, 5-Stars to the folks at RAASCO Grips, LLC for just making it happen.
I'll post pics when they arrive...and yeah, I am ordering a set from them for mine as well. How could I not?
Menawhile, here's an example...I ordered a different set (color), but you get the idea:
