I have the stainless pt92asf with the accesory rail. I was wonder what the "asf" stood for because i swear i thought i saw an identical stainless that just had 2 letters after the pt92 like as or af only. I was thinking maby "Aluminum Framed Stainless"

i haven no idea i wondered this my self

has anyone ever asked taurus directly? either by phone or email?

it's pretty pitiful at the aftermarket support and knowledge out there..

the manual that it comes with is generalized and useless.. the beretta manual for example lists variants.. but then again thats fairly common knowledge already anyway.

i do agree i think A: stans for alloy, or possibly aluminum..

F: maybe frame mounted safety?

S: stainless?

On my PT92, the letters are AFS. I believe that is stands for A model of the gun and FS is fixed sights.
Just my $.02 worth. I may have made this up or it may be indeed fact. Who knows??? LOL!!!!!!!

Cant stand for fixed sights, because the all black 92 just says "AF."
the af is suposed to designate the aluminum frame.
like the pt92b designated blued but no alum. frame

i am supprised they dont have anyway of telling if it has a decocker or rail.. although i know they all come with rails and decockers now how do you know just by saying if it's an older model with one or neither of those?

AF-D (1991 -present) Three position manual safety/de-cocker version of “AF”. (Current designation for all PT92 variants). Note: marked simply "AF"

AF-D (1991-1997) DAO version of PT92, no safety/ decocker lever (LEO only model)

AR - (200? -present) Accessory Rail version of PT92/99/100/101. Note: not all guns are marked AR

Security key-lock system was added in 2000.

Finaltoy here,
"ASF" = Absolute Superior Firearm!:)
I have a model PT99 ASF
The difference from the PT92 ASF is the PT99 has adjustable sights. Also ambi decocker and mag release behind trigger guard.
I agree with the Stainless slide with alloy frame explanation.
Hope this helps.

I also have a .22 cal conversion kit for it. P1020329 PT99.JPG

That was my impression as well. I thought the A was for Alloy. (Alloy Frame Stainless)

However, I could be wrong, and so I plan on paying attention the next time today's letter is "A" on sesame street. (Would be nice if they dedicated one episode just to firearms.:))
