PT22 Poly Pocket Rocket - 1st Range Experience

Finally picked the Taurus over the Beretta pocket rocket. Picked it up at Academy $199 + tax. Comes in a very small black cardboard box with handgun, 1 magazine, a manual & the NRA membership card.
Academy did not have any magazines for the PT22. I have medium to large hands & absolutely love the grip. Looks like the magazines are available online for around $20.

I did clean & lube before range visit. Fed it 60 rounds of CCI Mini Mags. This little gun ran smooth as a baby's butt. Not one problem feeding or extracting. The magazine holds 8 but there is room to feed it 10 or more. I knew that wouldn't fly, so I was careful to stay at 8 plus one. Accuracy at 5 yards was very good. 3 yards, I was getting a 2 inch grouping. I know I can improve accuracy as I get to know the trigger better. The sights are black & I had a hard time seeing the front. Will need some glow paint for sure. Man is that trigger long and stout. Actually gave me a bit of sore trigger finger. The reset is all the way back. Double action all the way.

Gotta say it felt great having a rimfire pocket rocket run smoothly new out of the box.
Fun little shooter.

Thank you for the range report.I'm glad the POLY is working out for you. You have sound comments and observations. :) The POLY should serve you well.

The Beretta 21A did not fit me(small hands) and the trigger itself was to narrow and not a good fit. The Beretta is a fine product, but the POLY just works out better.

The CCI rounds work well as you have found out and that is what I use in my PT-22 and Poly-22.

To what Academy store in the metroplex did you go? The couple of stores here in Plano have no PLY-22's at all and their website does not list them. $199 seems like a great price as I have seen them for $249 or more used. Nice option for a BUG.

I picked my PT22 poly up at
Academy Sports

I purchased it about 5 days ago. When I tried to check their inventory online, they didn't show 1 in stock. I gave the store a call & spoke with their gun department. The gentleman checked his inventory & had 2 of them in stock. I asked him if he would hold one for me until the next. He did put a hold on it until the next day. I scurried on down & snapped it up along with 100 rounds of the CCI mini mag.

They may still have one remaining. Give em a hollar
OK, follow up to my post. This was just too good to be true. I have been stuck again with a Taurus product where magazines are scarce. I found the PT22 poly magazine on Ebay for $25 plus shipping. I hate dealing with Ebay. Midway has the PT22, but not poly. Even Taurus shows 0 available.

Went through this same problem with the PT709.. Took me 8 months to dig up 4 factory mags at a decent price. Ebay was selling the 709 mags for $80 for several months because of the shortage.

My hope is that maybe a phone call to Taurus tomorrow will dig up a couple if mags.
Glad the Poly 22 worked good for you! I have the stainless PT-22, and it has ran well for a number of years now.

HMMM??
who was that funny looking real little German guy with the frizzy hair that said " to keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome is insanity"?

Actually, the correct & original quote was "To keep doing the same thing OVER & OVER and expect different results is insanity"

Thanks for the help folks. The Grabagun magazine was not for the PT22 Poly. It was for the PT22 Nonpoly.

I went ahead and ordered 2 magazines from Ebay for $22.95 which included shipping. I am through ranting & raving as this gun is proving to be a good deal. Plus all that stress could drive a person -- insane!
Great range report! I have the older version with the alloy frame that I bought from Academy Sports like 3 years back. Still running great. Just FYI, I believe the older PT22 magazines do not fit the POLY PT22 and vice-versa. I do not have the OEM part numbers, but it would be a good idea to talk with Taurus Customer Service for that part numbers so you have it on hand when you are shopping around for an extra magazine.
