moondawg I like the quote you posted "beware the man with one gun" Thats me , one gun only, I really do try to practice regularly .I only am interested in being able to hit what I aim at 7 to 10 yds max.Although I have found that this gun is accurate at further distance . Any suggestions on the ammo i carry for defense or any other info will be appreciated. 2245

Thanks Moondawg on the ammo tip.I was loading stingers as carry round, however in light of your advice and the fact that out of appr. 700 rds inc. breakin that 4 of 7 failures,3 failure to feed during first 100rds, the balance of failures were stingers!Since Ive only fired 90 stingers ,4 failures is 4 to many, thus no more stingers.im happy to say, discounting the breakin period and the stingers i have had 100% reliability. also ive noticed now It seems to fire any of the premium brands ive tried.Again, thanks to Moondawg im carrying now 40 grain copper plated solid nose . cci mini mags, remingtion "golden bullett".to those of you with problems, remember break it in , stay with premium bullets ,break it in and keep it clean.stay safeand always carry! 2245

after years of doing big bores / magnums, bigger is better is american :), i've returned to 22 rimfires. been looking at the pt 22 for a pocket pistol. hard to find a used one and all the area dealers order, no stock. is this a low production run, not much demand piece or could it just be the area i'm in? anyhow, just looking for fyi's and such.
My local gun dealer has a great selection of all type handguns ,Usually! I have bought 4 pt 22s, over the last few months. The dealer told me they could not get any from their supplier. Back-ordered indefintley, he said. And this dealer usually has Pt-22 by the dozens. I bought my 4th pt-22 and the dealers last one in stock Friday. He also said he expected to see a higher selling price when they arrive.mc

I just bought one for my wife for Christmas. It already has broken grips, but it shoots great on walmart Federal brick ammo. I had 6 jams in the first 2 clips, now not one since for 300 rds. It's a solid little gun. The pearl grips seem to be a problem. I paid 225 and just noticed them online in stock for the same one I bought for 199. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/18337

Not sad I gave a local the business, but that's a good price and the only other place I've seen them in stock since a month before Christmas.
Out of stock now! They are getting hard to find in my area and just a few months ago they were everywhere. mc

As stated in my other posts, i have owned a total of 5 Pt 22/25s,all but one were/are pt-22s.I shot all of them at least several hundred rounds, except the pt-25. I simply cannot find fault with these little pistols.I bought a NIB black pearl.no gold last Friday. This is the only one i have now and i do plan to keep it. My opinions of this pistol,After initial break-in,this newest 22 is just like the others, it runs flawlessly. Yesterday i pinned a white notebook size sheet of paper to a good backstop. I fired from appr 15 feet, one handed and landed 9 of 9 within a 6 inch group.
then i went back to 25 feet . 7 of 9 hit the paper . remember at this point i have only fired 30 or 40 rds with this newest pistol. My opinion on accuracy for civilian self defense is if I can hit an 8x11 paper from 30 feet or less every single time Then i feel i can shoot accurately enough to defend myself with this small cal weapon. It conceals so easily and the grips are perfect for my hands. Usually, with other very small pistols there is not enough grip for my hand.Cleaning couldn't be easier!! And i do keep it clean. The tip-up barrel is great,no need to ever rack the slide.Again simple but very beneficial .Fit and finish is great. As to ammo, other than an initial break-in,my pt-22 {all 4 of them] runs everything i put in it. However,I now shoot only CCI mini-mag fmj. But i have shot the real cheap stuff and it ran perfect.Never tried the bulk ammo. Great pistol, good price.mc

Well i am now at appr 700 + rds an still no problems.i did experience what i guess was a "light strike".i pulled the trigger and nothing happened.the second pull of the trigger and off she went!!first time with any pistol for me! I tried to find the empty shell casing but it was gone.another 100 quick rds with no problems. shoot it ,clean it, shoot it more. Fabulous little pocket pistol.ultra reliable.i saw a pic of the new polymer pts . but i will stick with my all metal version.at 12 oz or so its plenty light for me. mc

Does any one know if Taurus plans to extend the PT22/25 platform to a 32ACP caliber, like the Beretta Tomcat? Ideally, WITH an extractor, which the Tomcat doesn't have?
+the only thing i heard was about the new polymer pt series.nothing of a .32?? but anything is possible.mc

My PT-22 likes most higher quality ammo, as long as it's not hollow points. I seems to jam every 4-5 shot w/hollow points. Overall I use mini mags, and have no problems.

I wish Taurus would make one in 22 mag though. I have heard a bunch of people asking the same thing.
How many rds have you fired thus far? I have found that with my 4 pt-22s ,3 of them required 2to4 mags before operating flawlessly. With any ammo.inc hp.my current pt-22 is at about 6 to 700 rds with only 3 failure to return to battery in the first 2 mags. no problems since. your pistol should fire fmj or jhp without issue. i am fanatical about cleaning. shoot clean shoot, repeat!hope yours starts acting right . if not send it to taurus. it should be reliable with all quality ammo. i have even loaded mags staggered with fmj and jhp with no problems.mc

Wren, try this. Get a box of cci-mini-mags jacketed hollow point.make sure you pistol is clean and lightly oiled. do not use wd40. use a good gun lubricant.and start shooting. i think within a few mags it will start running like it should.your owners manual advises against Hyper Velocity ammo like CCI Stingers. However that is the load i keep in my pistol while carrying.I dont practice with the Stingers, other than enough to make sure they will run perfect. any other time i use cci mini-mags full metal jacket. although i have shot many different brands initially, i now shoot only CCI brand ammo.I really think that you just need to shoot a little more and it will smooth out. Let us know how it goes. you have got a fine pistol. as to the question on the .22 mag, i have no idea.mc

I've had a Beretta .22 since they first came out. It never jammed once and I used a lot of cheap ammo. Now my "processing" period of 2 months is about over down here and I will pick up a PT-22 for a BUG next week. It is made in Brazil, as is my PT58-HC+. Ammo choices are limited. High Velocity Remington HP, and Aguilla were my only choices a few weeks ago. Remington was about $16 per box of 50, Aguilla about $13. They did have some Remington sub-sonic. I'll have to get a box of that just to see what it does. I shot a lot of Aguilla .22 in Mexico when I worked there, in a High Standard & a Model 41 Smith. They usually worked. Most of the time. Ammo is too expensive here to just buy cheap and pray it works. From what I have read on this thread it looks like the PT-22 needs a higher velocity round to operate all the time. I'll post how it all comes out.

Hey Slim. Good info. Where are you that ammo costs are that high? the pt-22/25 series are made in Miami,fl,USA. Because of their size and some other variables they cannot be imported to this country. So since 1991 they are USA made. by the way,i recently tried the Remington subsonic load and they ran perfect as well.Good luck with yours. mc

I'm in Cusco Peru. I didn't look closely at the slide of the PT-22 when I bought it, but they tell me they import directly from Brazil. The PT-58HC+ has "Made in Brazil" on one side of the slide, and the standard Taurus Miami markings on the other. I'll look closer next week when I get to pick it up.

First you have to find a gun that you want. Civilians are limited to .38 and below in handguns. There is only one store selling firearms in Cusco and choices are limited. Lima has several. You pay for the gun you want and then go to four different police related agencies, in four different areas of town. They will issue a certificate of "No Record" for their area of legal responsibility. Three of the four certificates can be picked up the same day. The fourth takes 30 days because it is a nationwide search for lawsuits against me. No computers are used, it's all done by hand. A psychological exam comes next. That consisted of a $10 fee and my name being printed on a preprinted certificate that certified that I was sane, and of "average" moral and ethical intelligence. (My daughters & grandkids loved that one- I sent it to them without reading the small print)

Last was a 30 minute talk with the National Police commander to examine my firearms knowledge. It was mostly questions you find in the NRA's safety posters, and six shoot/don't shoot examples. The answers were all the same, you shoot if you, your family or anyone else is in actual physical danger, you don't shoot a crook running away with your TV.

It's all a bit of a hassle, but was professionally done as far as their technology allows. The license package then goes to Lima to print the actual license & ammo purchase log. That takes up to 30 days. My last one only took 20 so I'm hopeful to see it next week. The license is weapon specific, and allows me to carry that specific weapon anywhere in the country, even on domestic flights.

Thanks Slim, that is all very interesting to me. i really appreciate you taking the time to tell us how it is in places other than the the U.S..what a process to go thru compared where i live in South Alabama. Here, you apply for a ccw permit at the local Sheriffs office. in about 3 days you get your permit. they run a background check i guess. It is a 20 dollar fee and we renew annually. Not weapon specific. again thanks,mc

well folks, i went out and shot my pt-22 yesterday. And my pistol Broke!! The trigger quit working. i could pull the trigger all the way back to the stop and nothing?no click,no boom, nothing. you could see the hammer coming back as the trigger was pulled but it seemed as if it needed a little more "travel". Man am i disappointed . this after hundreds of rds and no problems. i came home and cleaned and inspected the pistol. i could see nothing wrong. so i went back to the woods ,fired 9 quick shots and no problem.i reloaded and and the trigger did the same as before.I took the gun to my dealer hoping he would exchange it as i have bought literally dozens of guns from him over the years. At first he said sorry send it to Taurus. Finally after politely reminding him of my loyal patronage, he said let his gunsmith look at it and if couldn't repair it soon,he would send it to Taurus and give me a new pistol.that way he waits on Taurus and not me. i hope he follows thru.i need my pistol. mc ps i have owned and fired 5 of these little guns and this is my first and only problem with any of them.
