I've locked it off the gun to see how it works, it's a rotating block. I can see damage resulting if you closed the slide, with the lock engaged. I like it, though don't use it often, but like knowing if my gun fell into the wrong hands the person wouldn't probably be bright enough to figure out how to unlock it.
