PT 92 Battery Problem

I have a PT92 AF that after every other shot fails to completely go into battery. It almost completely goes back into battery and is extremely difficult to clear almost impossible. Anyone have any ideas why a new pistol would do this..

The weapon is dirty or needs de-greasing knowing taurus.
also possible weak or broken recoil spring, rough spot in slide rails or frame rails, thats where I would begin looking.
assuming that this is with factory ammo, if using reloads then first stop would be checking the reload and making sure they have been placed back into acceptable standards ( OAL, case dimensions) for new ammo.
sounds like a ammo issue just from your description, have you tried different brands of ammo?

Yes 4 different types in 4 different mags. I have several extra guide rod springs for this model but haven't been able to test them yet. Thx for the advise. Its my wife pistol and she was pretty pissed. I have a M9 which has been flawless for years lol..
Welcome to the forum from Northern Illinois! Please read the guidelines and jump right in.

I moved you post to a section where it will get more attention. Feel free in the future to start posts based upon current need/topic, etc.

When you take the pistol down for a good cleaning, examine closely the locking block, barrel and when assembling pay attention to the position of the recoil spring. Good luck with it and let us know how it works out!

Edit to add...I just saw "new pistol"...remember that the clock is ticking on the warranty as regards free shipping back to Miami for repair. Being new it probably goes to cleaning and assembly...unlikely parts like the spring would be worn out.

Yep, I bet!
very disappointing when you purchase a new weapon and immediately have problems with it.
as a side note here, I have a 1987 model 99 (92 with adjustable sights) and over the years and thousands of rounds I have only needed (wanted) to replace the recoil spring a couple of times.
now it HASN"'T been 100 % flawless but certainly very near so.
IF you have tried several brands of ammo and its still being a problem I think I would contact Taurus and send it back and let them worry with it, after all they created it.
hope you get it worked out.
Are you using 115gr or 124gr. On a new gun you really should use 124 gr to get it broken in. Also be sure you got all the gunk out when you clean it. I also put a little tetra gun grease on the rails. Have you thought about taking it to a gunsmith and have it throated, and polished? You can also get him to polish the slide rails. I bought a Beretta 92 fs, and had the work done. You would not believe what a difference it makes. Slick as glass.
I bought a Gen 4 Glock 19 that wouldn't go into battery and failed 10-15 rounds per 100. I pulled it apart and it had a lot of rough, unfinished surfaces inside of it. I used a little Mother's Mag polish and a rag to smooth out the tool marks and such, it runs like a top now.

May just need to break in.
When cleaning, pay special attention to the locking block/plunger/pin. Gunk there or a burr or something might contribute to your issue.
