I got out to my friends private shooting range today to shoot my first rounds through myTaurus 92 AF-D today.

The Taurus magazines functioned perfectly, the older Beretta magazines with the larger hole for the magazine release failed to feed after the first round was fired in double action mode. The Taurus magazines were flawless.

So, I’ll use the Beretta magazines in just my Beretta 92S and only use Taurus or Mecgar magazines in the Taurus pt92. There must be some slight differences between the two because the Factory Taurus magazines functioned perfectly.

It’s always good to test your weapons with the magazines you carry. This is a perfect case in point.

After my trip to the range and owning both the Beretta and Taurus, I can’t see or feel any difference between the two. They are both equal in my book and I would carry either one anytime. In fact think I prefer the Taurus a little more. Both are well made weapons at any price. Both are equally accurate in fact both are superb. I do like the option of carrying the a Taurus cocked and locked. I also prefer where Taurus put the safety over the Beretta 92.

So, which one would I carry? I’m a veteran LEO and just retired. I’m also a well seasoned firearms instructor. I frankly would choose the Taurus to carry and feel very confident doing so.

This a classic case of costing more doesn’t mean it’s better imho. Well maybe not too humble, I’ve been around the block a few times and shot all kinds of weapons, so I might know a thing or two lol.

I always thought Beretta magazines did not work in the PT92 without some modifications?

Great range report comparing the two brands. I seem to recall modifications required to the M92 magazines to work with the PT 92 AFS. If you look to buy other new mags for the PT 92 I strongly recommend the Mec Gar maker. I have two and two...OEM and MecGar and while both work well, I prefer the latter. 18 rounds versus 17 and a poly base on the last one.

I would not be interested in a Beretta with the safety up high on the slide...just my preference,

Thanks for the range report. Beretta makes a fine pistol, and with a few mods it can be a better pistol. The Taurus and Girsan Regard are just a bit better made, and usually have a slightly better trigger feel. All three are great. I've owned all three and have decided the Girsan Regard is a great option. I've upgraded mine, it now has a 3lb SA and a 7.5lb DA pull and very smooth action. It is compat with most Beretta mags, however some won't lock back because the follower shelf ledge doesn;t stick out far enough to catch slide stop.

That was a question I had. The newer Beretta magazines have a small slot in them. The older ones I had have a large slot in them and looked like they might work in the Taurus as well but I have to say that did not prove to be true today.

The factory magazines functioned perfectly and like I said I actually prefer the Taurus over the Beretta.

I have a few Taurus factory mags for my PT92 but I agree with Czechbikr that the Meg Gar's are the way to go.

I just ordered one from midway USA and it’s on its way. The funny thing is the Taurus magazines have the 92S cutout so they will work with the Beretta 92S! Lol

I've owned 1911's for decades. I bought my first ever 9mm, a PT92 AFS just a few months ago. The safety on the 92 seems just a tad bit too light for me to think about carrying it cocked and locked. Anyway, that's one of the reasons I bought a SA/DA semiauto in the first place; to have the DA option.

You have to go back in in time to find them comparable. Like nearly 40 years ago.

However, like Czechbikr, I can second the Mecgar magazines. I use them for my 92 and CZ75's.

Taurus pt92

Had a question out there for any pt92 owners on the original magazines with the yellow follower 17 rounder have you had problems with the follower jamming like moving or the Bullet turn sideways I should say upside down I read a couple of YouTube videos and saying that that was one problem they had with them I bought a mec-guard magazine 18 round and it's perfect rounder
