Hello, I am new to this forum and not sure if I have the right area for this post please forgive me if it is not. My daughter bought a new PT840c at a gun show last weekend for home defense. We took it out for target practice the other day. Shooting at targets roughly 30 feet and some 50 feet they all shot low about 12inches. Three of us shot the pistol with the same results so it wasn't just my daughter's aim. Instead of lining up the three dots on the sights you had to aim with the front post dot way above the rear sights dots in order to get on target. Is anyone else having this problem? Does Taurus make a replaceable shorter front sight or is this something that covered under warranty that Taurus will repair? Thanking in advance on help with this matter.

Welcome from the Rust Belt USA....

Yeah, cover the target with the dot and see if that fixes your problem.

Yes and only way to get on target was to aim completely off the top part of the target by at least ten to twelve inches. I was just reading another thread where someone with a pt840 was having same problem and he had several reply they had that same problem too till changing the front sight. May have to research this some more. Thanks guys!

I have the same weapon and am having exactly the same issue. I love the pistol, but I've gotta fix this.
At 10 yards, I'm 8-10 inches low and 2-3 inches left, unless I have the dots in a triangle.
The left part could be me, but the low isn't...

Novaks makes the sights for this weapon for Taurus...Maybe they have a taller rear sight?

Try a heavier bullet. It is counterintuitive, but a heavier projectile is slower, and stays in the barrel a bit longer. As the barrel rises from the recoil of the shot, heavier bullets will hit higher than lighter, faster ones.

I don't know what the others here are using, but my target ammo is 180 grain Winchester from Wal-Mart. I've never seen anything heavier than 180 grain for 40 S&W.

I spoke with Taurus customer service, and after they made sure that I was using and caring for the weapon properly, and using quality ammunition, they said that I could send it in for repair if it was really shooting as low as I said.

Not wanting to be without my carry pistol for 6-8 weeks without being completely sure, I went to the range last week, and was still shooting low, but not as bad as I remember from last time. One of the employees at the range gave me some "constructive criticism" and it was determined that my grip was terrible, and I was squeezing waaaaay to hard with my right hand. After I got those issues corrected, I put 10 rounds in 5 point scoring range at 10 yards. Still a couple inches below where I was aiming, but overall a pretty nice group and certainly acceptable for a compact weapon, especially one at this price point.

Now, with that being said, I was having some feed issues with the standard capacity magazine, but no issues with the hi-cap magazine. I disassembled the magazine and determined that the orange plastic slide was sticking in the magazine body. I worked on it for a little while (sanded the corners down, and polished it), but couldn't seem to improve it, so I am going to order a new magazine.

Thanks for diagnosis target. I have seen those before, but now I'll have a chance to use one.

Here is my last target with that 840, an 8 inch with 15 new holes from 10 yards. I decided to sell it, and it has now been replaced with a Glock 23 Gen 3. Still a Taurus fan, though. ..My wife still carries a 740 which is amazing.
