PT 809C mag in TH9C?

I recently purchased a TH9C, Taurus customer service said they did not have mags for it and had no idea if or when they would be available. Will the 809C 13 round Mag work in the TH9C?

He-He-He . well welcome to Taurus World.
buy your ticket, come in , sit down and have the ride of your life looking for magazines for the weapons.
seriously welcome to the forum.
Tuarus customer support told me that I should contact Mec Gar as they make the magazines for the new TH9 and 9C. I sent an email to Mec Gar requesting part numbers and where they can be purchased. I will report back when I hear back from Mec Gar.

Heck at least they gave you that info, that's a good thing. I'm not sure what their problem is with ordering enough magazines to supply their customers but it's not anything new.

Yea!
now IF Mec Gar will sale you a magazine or 2-3, If I remember correctly normally Taurus frowns on them doing that so that Taurus can make the bucks on magazines I do believe.
not sure IF its a legal agreement or not?
but Mec gar has made a few mags recently for taurus weapons if I remember right.
I can't figure out why they don't stock or order more mags unless its a financial thing and they don't want to tie up money for an extended time?
anyway hope it works out for you.

And this is on a brand new model of pistol. Who plans this stuff out? Ok so we are going to build 50,000 units. We'll supply 1 mag per unit. So let's order 50,000 mags. Then maybe a year down the road we will order a few more just in case someone wants 1. Do they not understand that for pretty much any magazine fed gun that 3 mags is minimum! So maybe I'm greed thinking 3 mags is minimum but I don't think so.

Hopefully in their infinite wisdom Taurus will relax the sale of magazines direct to the customer from Mec-Gar since they have done away with the lifetime warranty and seem to be selling some parts that I think would have been considered restricted parts in the past.

Sorry for the rant but this magazine issue, PT709, this gun, or other models, is simply inexcusable.

I did find a way to get a second magazine or so for Taurus pistols. For a few of them that is. Going whole hog is just not right. :)

I buy a second or third pistol of the same kind, but to have two alike guns. That's just in case the first one gets bagged tagged if a gun has to go into evidence due to a real world defense shooting. God forbid for you or me for that to have to happen.

The other plus side is that there is one more mag to have in buying a second gun. I do not recommend that for all of your purchasing firearms in any way.

I agree with you, and really how much does a additional magazine actually cost the company that is buying by contract several thousand magazines from the mag company?
CZ ahs been offering 2 if not 3 magazines with every weapon they manufacture now for many years, and you can pretty much buy them at the corner drug store.
I am a minimum 3 mag guy myself.

And think of all the "unavailable" spare parts you presently have in stock! I can see that working.

:D

I beat the spare part problem by saving all the extra parts that I have left over when I detail strip and clean my pistols or take them apart!!----

Well I got a reply from Mec Gar on availability on magazines for the new TH9 and TH9C. Not very encouraging!

I’m not sure why they told you to contact us. We make most of Taurus’s magazines, but we aren’t permitted to sell them ourselves due to the manufacturing agreements. Mec-Gar USA, Inc.905 Middle StreetMiddletown, CT 06457 Tel: 860-635-1525Fax: 860-635-1712Web: www.mec-gar.com

No real surprise there, but no harm in asking. I wonder if Mec-gar would be willing to tell a person if/when they are in the process of mfg. a specific magazine? Then you would have a heads up on when to order. Just a thought.

Back to my OP question. Does anyone know if the 809C mag will fit the TH9C? I see a few 809C mags available on the net.

EYE told EWE SEW!!!--sorry.
I contacted Taurus customer service, here is what I got.
1) The 809C mag will not fit the TH9C, but they did not elaborate.
2) Mags the the TH9 and TH9C are not available at this time
3)Mags will be available in the future, not sure when perhaps first quarter of 2019
4) They suggested getting aftermarket Mags in the meantime. I asked you makes them, they did not know if any were available.

I strongly recommended that they make mags available at the time of the gun release to the market. I also let them know that lack of Mag availability was a common complaint on the forum. When I buy a new toy I tend to want to get my addons right away and be done with it, pretty sure I am not unique that regard. I told them it would not be good for Taurus if folks went to a different brand over something like Mag availability. Service rep did what they could but in reality best I can hope is that Taurus listens to customers from time to time.

P.S. On a side note they just broke ground on their GA facility and it will be a manufacturing location, not just repackaging and distribution. Made in America Taurus!!!

Well whenever I consider a new Taurus, I look for the mags first. If they are available I buy them then I buy the pistol. If I can't find any mags, I don't buy the pistol.

I learned this with the PT 638. I ended up with a bunch of mags because I had a bunch of backorders that I forgot about after six months. They all hit at once.
I went with a neighbor and friend to help him look for a cheap --(yes not inexpensive but cheap) 22 semi auto pocket pistol.
so we hit 4-5 places all were combo pawn shops and gun stores.
we ended up in Clayton county at a pawn shop that caters shall we say to the less desirable group of gun buyers.
anyway he picked out a Jimemez J-22. OK-- here we go now!
it came with 2 magazines (surprise me!) and the clerk asked if he wanted any additional magazines?
they were like 14.95 each. wow -- so think about this?
meantime back at the farm at the far end of the counters they had the most taurus pistols that I have seen in stock for some time, including the TH-9 is that it?
anyway a couple of 945, 840, 709, 740 and on an on-- I had to ask about additional mags for the Taurus-- yea you guessed it!
sad-sad-sad.

Olfarhors,

Yes the TH9 is the full size version which comes with 2 - 17 round mags. The TH9C is the compact version that comes with 1 13 round mag and a second 17 round mag, The 17 round mag has a spacer on. Perhaps someday the 13 round and 17 round mags will be available but my guess is the little spacer to use the 17 round mag on the compact model will never be available.

same scenario as they have done before-- the 24/7 and 24/7 C was that way.
used a spacer to accommodate the full sized mag in the compact . also had a smaller standard mag.
and yes they were impossible to find and buy as well.
MY point was IF a Ring of Fire manufacture can provide 2 mags and have extra mags for sale then whats the problem with taurus?
