I'm trying to ascertain some additional info on this full size.
It looks like a highly upgraded PT111, while my Pt111 is by far the greatest value in FS 9MM (imo)
This appears to have taken it to another level...

anyone else seen or know about this?

I have one. I like it because it's a hammer gun. This series is going to be replaced by the TH series.

How does it compare to the PT111?

I will research the TH series
Not much to compare; the PT111 is striker fired semi auto with 2nd. strike capability and the PT809 is a hammer fired DA/SA semi auto.

When you say "FS 9mm" do you mean Full Size 9mm? I ask because the PT111 is far.from full size. I call it compact some even call it subcompact.

I'm confused. The 809 is a duty size hammer fired gun and the 111 is a subcompact striker fired. I prefer striker fired pistols and am looking forward to the TS pistol.

I have both of them and they are both great guns, but the PT809 is less harsh when shooting. Both have second strike capability and and both are SA/DA with one being hammer fired and one striker fired. Gunbuyer just posted on instagram yesterday that they just got a new shipment of the PT809's in yesterday for $235 shipped which is a great price, you're getting a lot of gun for the money...seriously!!! I was like I thought Taurus discontinued the PT809 and they said they did but they were able to secure a new shipment of them. Heres a picture of them together so you can see the size difference https://www.gunbuyer.com/taurus-pt809-9mm-4-barrel-17-1-novak-sights-1809041.html

The one thing that both the PT111 and PT809 have in common is that they are both excellent pistols, both bargain priced if you shop wisely.

I have one of the 111 and three of the 809. Two of the 809 are full size, the other the compact version. The 809 is a discontinued firearm, currently the best price I have found on the full size is $259. Considering that the 111 can be had for $200, I find that the 809 is a better all around bang for the buck.

As noted the PT111 is a striker fire pistol, where the PT809 is a hammer fired SA/DA pistol, meaning that both have that second strike capability. The 111 is a compact choice, some may say subcompact due to the width of the weapon. The compact 809 is much larger framed than the 111 and feels as such in your hand.

However, the full size 809 does offer a few nice features that are not available on the 111 the biggest is that it comes with interchangeable back straps for finding that right fit to your hand grip.

If you think that the full size frame would work for the intended use you are looking for I would recommend that you jump on one like stink on a dirty diaper before they are all gone at that $259 price tag.

I'd note that the PT111 G2 has second strike capability, and the PT809 has second strike, third strike, and fourth strike (...to infinity and beyond!) capability.

Not that it's an advantage.
I expect the TH9 will be priced pretty aggressively. I expect in a few months it will be selling near what you are seeing as prices for the PT809.

I will research the TH series
I have both the PT 111 and the PT 809. The 809 is discontinued. Both are great guns. The 809 is duty size, hammer fired with ambidextrous controls. It has both a decocker and a safety, very durable and as with the 111 it is underrated.

I hope the new TH9 is comparable as I like it's look.

800 series are some of the best guns Taurus has ever made. That said Taurus didn't support the platform or market it well. So unless you like scrounging for parts/mags/springs...

I'd be more inclined to buy the pt111 g2 which has some after market support (Lake Line LLC) etc... and can use SIG / MecGar P229/P226 9mm mags.
Thanks for the comparison photos and discussions. I also have a PT111 G2 and just ordered a PT809 for $235 from gunbuyer.com. Add on my $20 transfer fee and I think it's a great bargain for $255.

I hope that the TH9 is a huge success, marketed and supported well, AND most of the parts are interchangeable with the 809. Might be a good candidate for some Lakeline parts

Curious if the 809 magazines work in the 111?

No, unfortunately they don't unless you mod the mag by cutting the slot in it.

I’ve owned my pt 809 full size for about a year now. And I’m frustrated because I can’t find any magazines for it, it’s getting to the point I’m going in another direction on my full size Taurus guns. 😡

I got a PT809 this week and am hoping/betting that the TH mags fit. I asked Taurus this question on their Facebook page but they haven't responded.
