PT 38S derailed with new finish

I'm one of the people that don't like rails, I don't need them and think they're ugly. Awhile back I bought a PT 38S and it arrived with a rail but I tried to like it but finally sold it. I liked the gun and caliber alot and later decided to buy another one if I could have the rail removed so I spoke with Larna from Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing (www.fordsguns.com) and they said they could remove it. Ended up only charging $50 for the rail removal plus the cost of a refinishing.

Here's a before photo with the factory black finish and big ass rail. Sorry my photos aren't very good.

And the after photos with the rail removed and a new finish, brushed chrome flats with matte chrome rounds. Looks much better than the photos. I accidently broke the front sight, have to call Taurus and order a new one. I think it turned out great.

I too, have no use for the rail. It's just to bad the gun isn't still black. They did a sweet job though, it looks nice!

Could have the rail removed and see if Ford's will just refinish the frame.

is that the same gun?

looks like they did a decent job.. although i dont like the rail.. the thing is there are very few if any holsters out there that is made to fit a gun and an accessory like a light.. this goes for just about any gun with a rail not just taurus..

so it's kind apointless to have a rail when putting something on it means you can't find a holster for the S.o.B

even so i dont think i would go threw the lengths to have the rail cut off.. it does take away from the guns look a little bit.. but i just live with it.

It looks like a Sig or S&W. Are these guns copies of another?

It has the take-down lever and slide stop and safety/decocker of the Taurus 92 which is a copy of the early Berettas but that's it, everything else is original.

Can you even find holsters for it (with or without the rail)? I'm kind of wanting to make this purchase, maybe they have one at the gunshow. . . . . .

Don't know if there's a holster available, never thought about using one but there has to be one out there that will work. Try a holster for a Sig 220, they're similar in shape.

$50 to remove the rail + the cost of a refinishing. Everything only took about eight weeks.

As far as I know they removed the black finish in a tank of chemicals that disolves the finish and refinished it with chrome that looks matte stainless and brushed the flats. Chrome is a very hard finish and lasts the longest out of all of them.

How many rounds have you put threw it? I know chrome will stand up much longer than any blueing, parkerizing,anodizing,ect but how does it stand up on the frame rails and hammer face?

Haven't shot it yet, had the work done over winter and waiting for spring but I do have a few others I've had chromed and the rails just slide right over each other without any wear and not a bit of wear on the hammer. Sounds too good but I've honestly had no issues with the handguns I've had chromed, it's very strong and hardly needs any oil on the inside.
