PT 1911 ammo

The pistol hasn't changed a great deal since it was initially designed and it was designed to run 230 gr. FMJ. Some 1911s run everything and some a tad fussier; guess it depends on the tolerances they were made to but ball ammo SHOULD work best.
actually the 1911 in 45 ACP was designed to operate on a 200 grain ball ammunition, the US Army insisted that John change it to the 230 grain ball, but actually i agree with your statement as it seems all of my 1911's (regardless of manufacture) seems to be just a tad more accurate with the 200 grain projectile.
now this accuracy is not even enough to offset one of my good days VS one of my bad days.
every psitol will show a ceratin like- dislike for dfferent ammunitions but my 1911's handle everything from 185 grain to 230 grain very well.

What ammo shoots best in the PT 1911?
Totally depends on the pistol!
every pistola down the assmebly line is different, in the case of the 1911 even more so as more hand fitting is required.
the weapon is designed to function on ball (FMJ) round nose ammunition, but there are a half dozen different profiles in the .451 projectile, so just try the standard 230 grain FMJ round nose (ball) to begin with and expereiment with other weights.
you will find the 185-200 grian FMJ/SWC easier on you and less recoil, but harder to locate.
as for self defense ammo there are a lot ot try but make sure which one you choose works flawlessly in YOUR gun!
which means it really don't matter what your buddy says he shoots in HIS gun.
hope this helps a bit!

From my experience I allways use .45s, I tried some of those 9mm's once and they kept falling out of the barrel! :D
You obviosly was not holding the muzzle in an upward angle!-LOL

Do you guys think 230 Gr. FMJ ammo will work in a 1911?
the 230 grain FMJ round nose is pretty much the "GO TO" bullet for reliability, althoguh not a top notch self defense round.
if the 1911 (any 1911) wll not run on a 230 grian FMJ Round Nose then HOUSTON we have a problem!
