problem with Federal Prem. 2 1/2" 000 Buck

Good evening! I tried some Federal 000, in 2 1/2" in my Judge ultra lite. Every other round would cause the cylinder to bind. After examining the hulls, I noticed that the primer pockets had raised edges. I believe this was causing them to rub against the back of the frame, after firing. Upon examining the rest of the unfired shells, I noticed they all had noticable raised primer pockets. Other 410 ammo I had (remington and winchester), did not have this problem, and cycled flawlessly. Did anyone else have this problem, or do you think it was the one box of ammo. Thanks.

had a similar problem with different brand not sure which brand cheaper than dirt had federal and another brand in stock. the other brand was 25 rnd box for $1 cheaper than the 20 rnd federal so i bought that one. had an issue with getting the rounds out after firing and also intermittently binding when firing. had to remove spent cartridges then i could fire the others. this did not happen all the time though. never inspected the primer pockets though
It's a pretty hot load, and that could be causing the primer to raise I suppose. Does it do this with any other ammo?
Welcome to the forum ridgewalker! I would suspect it may have been that one box of ammo. I like running federal 000 thru my poly pd and it runs flawlessly.
Wouldnt hurt to give another box a try...
I've never had a problem with Federal's 000 in my Poly. It's the only thing I shoot & load in my Poly. She stands guard all night long at my bedside. Bad box of shells?? Bob
I've shot hundreds of rounds of Federal 2 1/2" 000 Buck through my Judge Mag without any issues at all. I did have the same primer issues with the Federal Champion .45LCs though.
............. had an issue with getting the rounds out after firing .............
I was advised by the gun shop where I bought mine that 410 shells with the 'striated' cases (ridged)
tend to expand in dia when fired. I guess the ridges flatten out making the case larger and that
causes the binding ? So Ive tried to always get only rounds with smooth sided cases.

Had a couple of slug rounds do exactly the same thing. Don't remember the brand, I'll check tonight when I get home.

Didn't find any brand name on them, just "410" stamp in the brass head.
Federal seemed to work ok for me with no issues in 2.5" 000. Granted, I've only had the Judge out to the range only once but I did run a whole box through it with no problems.
