March 2013 Handgun Shootout Rules: LIGHTS OUT & Open Shoot

All classes are to be shot standing, two handed, strong side.

LIGHTS OUT 7 yard Challenge
Download and print the 8.5 x 11” here:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8106/8519329360_c1899888a3_b_d.jpg

The target is two shots ONLY at each objective (10 shots total). You may shoot as many targets as you wish. The highest overall score will be the winner of the class. Ties will be decided by the size of the group of the 2 shots in the center objective.

LIGHTS OUT 7 yard Classes (LIGHTS OUT Target only)

1) Caliber .17 or .22, revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights
2) Any caliber, revolver or pistol, Iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be 4.5” or under.

Post a pic (or scan) of the target you want to submit with the center group measurement using calipers, a ruler or use the free version of OnTarget. On Target v1.10 Download
Post the model and caliber of the handgun used with the measurement of the center group.
Scoring note: A shot cutting into a numbered ring counts as the highest numbered ring. For example, if a shot has 80% of its hole in an 8 ring yet that hole has cut into the thin line that marks the 9 ring, the 9 ring is counted.
Obviously being the internet, this is an honor system type of competition for fun. Shot group measurements on the target whether by ruler, calipers, or software is requested so group sizes can be determined.

OPEN SHOOT 15 yard Classes (Use Any Target)

3) Caliber .17 or .22, revolver or pistol, Iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights
4) Any caliber, center fire revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be 4.5” or under. *note change
5) Any caliber, center fire revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be over 4.5” *note change

Shoot 6 rounds on each target, the tightest group of 5 for measurement count – 1 flyer (not scored) is allowed.
Smallest group wins - a tie will be called as that. No tie breaker. (all prizes will be shared equally between tying shooters  ) Post a pic (or scan) of the target you want to submit with the group measurement with an arrow between the holes farthest apart. Or use the free version of OnTarget. On Target v1.10 Download
Post the model and caliber of the handgun used along with the shot group size in text form.

Winners will be posted for each class with all competitors’ scores following in descending order.

Obviously being the internet, this is an honor system type of competition for fun. Shot group measurements on the target whether by ruler, calipers, or software is requested so group sizes can be determined.

The 15 Yard Open Shoot participants may use any target – creativity is encouraged! The following targets are available to print as needed.

Heading to the range this weekend? The TA Rifle AND Pistol monthly shootouts are both on this month.
The 7yd pistol challenge has a great LIGHTS OUT target thanks to the design skills of Super Moderator chicharrones - preview pic below (printable 8.5 x 11" version in post #1 above):

Plumbing fixture

LIGHTS OUT is a celebration (?!) and reminder that March is Daylight Savings Month (any excuse for a party!). There's also 3 - 15 yd. open categories as well! Any target goes - bring out YOUR fun stuff!!

Check out the 10 rifle shootout categories here: http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/firing-line/89937-rifle-shootout-march-2013-one-more-time.html <<

***So, SHOOT - get outta the house - OR - get outta the house and SHOOT!!!***

I got to 100 in three targets with last month's crawfish target. Have a look - the center was bigger but the 4 corner shots - OY!

The 15 yard challenge is open to any target you want and is all about the best group - even a flyer to toss out!

Go get 'em!! Red dot sights are acceptable if you have a pistol with a rail!! :)

It just gives a short barrel and long barrel class so a person can shoot a 709 against like pistols instead of having to compete against a 5" barreled 1911.

Oh, it's a class, I get it. It would help if I turned my reading comprehension app on.

LOL....great line glenwolde!! And sadly I know the feeling!
Actually there IS a small problem. If your barrel is exactly 4.5" you are screwed - you fit neither #4 or #5! I'm going to change class #4 to UP TO 4.5".

The PT111 9mm Pro has a 3.25" barrel, correct SO - In LIGHTS OUT you shoot #2 at 7 yards using the designated target 2 shots ONLY at each light bulb and in the OPEN SHOOT you shoot #4 at 15 yds. and can use any target that you want - shoot 6 shots and the best 5 count.

You can measure the group with a ruler, calipers OR by using the downloadable ON TARGET program, there is a link in post #1. It's safe and has an intuitive interface and instructions. If you try it and have questions PM me.

Have fun at the range. TIP: shooting LIGHTS OUT making the first shot at each bulb is key. We can all blow the center out of a bulls eye but having 5 different points of impact is - well - a challenge!!

No entry for me, but I just HAD to shoot my 24/7 at Leeds on Saturday.
Fired 47 rounds at my silhouette guessing at 15-20 yards, didn't measure it.
Only found 44 new holes, so 3 went through another hole I guess, 'cause I don't miss. :D
Anyway, shot it up pretty good. Now I'm down to 125 rounds, so time to look for bullets.

I think my shooting is getting worse. This is the best I could come up with in a short session at the range today.

Rule 1: 77 points
GSG 1911/22, 7yards
View attachment 50670

Rule 2: 6+4 points
Taurus PT709, 7 yards.
View attachment 50669
got to look at that on the big screen. The phone screen is not helping. I may reveal my round and target count if properly bribed!!
