March 2013 Handgun Shootout Rules: WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' FLOWERS
& Open Pistol Shootout!

Line art Text Circle Line Design

STINKIN' FLOWERS 7 yard Challenge
Download and print the OFFICIAL 8.5 x 11” target here:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8111/8610151913_f927e43e8e_b_d.jpg

The target is SIX shots ONLY! ONE at each corner target AND TWO in the center. You may shoot as many targets as you wish. The highest overall score will be the winner of the class. TIES will be decided by the size of the group of the 2 shots in the center target

All classes below (both distances) are to be shot standing, two handed, strong side.

STINKIN' FLOWERS 7 yard Classes (STINKIN' FLOWERS Target only)

:guns: Cat. #1 - Caliber .17 or .22, revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, any barrel length
:guns: Cat. #2 - Any caliber, revolver or pistol, Iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be 4.5” or under.

Post a pic (or scan) of the target you want to submit with the center group (2 shots) measurement using calipers, a ruler or use the free version of OnTarget. On Target v1.10 Download
Post the model and caliber of the handgun used with the measurement of the center group.
Scoring note: A shot cutting into a numbered ring counts as the highest numbered ring. For example, if a shot has 90% of its hole in an 8 ring yet that hole has cut into the thin line that marks the 9 ring, the 9 ring is counted.

Obviously being the internet, this is an honor system type of competition for fun. Shot group measurements on the target whether by ruler, calipers, or software is requested so group sizes can be determined.

OPEN SHOOT 15 yard Classes (Use Any Target)

:guns: Cat. #3 - Caliber .17 or .22, revolver or pistol, Iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights - any barrel length
:guns: Cat. #4 - Any caliber, center fire revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be 4.5” or under
:guns: Cat. #5 - Any caliber, center fire revolver or pistol, iron sights or unmagnified red dot sights, barrel must be over 4.5”

Shoot SIX rounds on each target, the tightest group of FIVE for measurement count – 1 flyer (not scored) is allowed.
Smallest group wins - a tie will be called as that. No tie breaker. (all prizes will be shared equally between tying shooters).

Post a pic (or scan) of the target you want to submit with the group measurement with an arrow between the holes farthest apart. Or use the free version of OnTarget. On Target v1.10 Download
Post the model and caliber of the handgun used along with the shot group size in text form.

Winners will be posted for each class with all competitors’ scores following in descending order.

Obviously being the internet, this is an honor system type of competition for fun. Shot group measurements on the target whether by ruler, calipers, or software is requested so group sizes can be determined.

The 15 Yard Open Shoot participants may use any target – creativity is encouraged! The following targets are available to print as needed.

I will try my best to participate this month. Have enough day light after work that I should make it to the range more now.

OK.
Now that I have a sufficient ammo supply, I will give it a try.
Going to use a B-27 center at 15 yards.
I think these LRN reloads will do quite well.
Although they do make a ragged hole, unlike the JHP.

#5 ·
ok, I'm in for this one...little confusion on barrel length last month.

#7 ·
Been a busy couple months but got a chance to head to the range last Tuesday (9th) and shoot some pistols. Brought along a few newbies that needed to be rung out and couple old favorites. It was a beautiful day and the only other shooter was down at the rifle end so it was like having the range to myself.

I decided to try my hand at all 5 categories and thought I knew what would be best but did have a couple surprises.

First I was sure my trusty S&W 41 would be my go to rimfire but on this day I had better luck with a couple new ladies, namely my Taurus 992 and S&W 2206. I will put them in order.

#1 Stinkin' Flowers, 7 Yards, 6 shots, 60 points, 3/16" center group, Taurus 992 SS 6.5" barrel, CCI std Velocity.

Up next was a pistol I picked up used a couple weeks ago, I had put a couple hundred rounds on some steel 2 days before but had not tried any groups. Started out with some Federal 115 grain wally world 100 pack ammo and it was horrible, 6"-8" high and all over the place, tried some Winchester white box and some Aguilia with slightly better results, then tried what I had for carry ammo, Winchester Ranger 147 grain bonded HPs. Dead on!!

#2 Stinkin' Flowers, 7 yards, 6 shots, 59 points, 5/8" center group, Springfield 9mm EMP 3" barrel, Winchester Ranger 147 grain bonded HP.

#3 Open Shoot, 15 yards, 6 shots (1 toss out), 1/2" best 5 shot group, Smith & Wesson 2206, CCI Std Velocity .22.

#4 Open Shoot, 15 yards, 6 shots (1 toss out), 3/4" best 5 shots group, Springfield 9mm EMP 3" barrel, Winchester Ranger 147 grain bonded HP.

Last but certainly not least was #5, my CZ SP-01 or Pointman 9 is usually my go to bun but my newly finished PT1911 custom was on fire when I did my part. I had a few 4 round groups that were just one jagged hole but I would inevitably blow it, finally got a couple good 5 shot groups. I have shot this thing off the bench with a bunch of different ammo and the Nowlin barrel seems to like anything I throw at it, just wish I was as perfect as it is. Has always been a favorite pistol of mine but now it has found a special place in my heart!

#5 Open shoot, 15 yards, 6 shots (1 toss out), 5/8" best 5 shot group, Taurus PT1911 5" (at least the frame and slide are), Remington 230 grain FMJ.

Had a busy day today with shooting a steel challenge match and my daughters birthday party. Tomorrow there is a yard to be mowed, AC units to put in, lunch at school with my daughter and a trampoline to put together but if I get it all done my reward is another range day this Tuesday for the rifle shootout. Most of my life I have worked 6 days a week, can't express how much I like working four 10 hour shifts a week.

Great to see the challenge picking up.

Stallard - that's the work week I've always wanted. I know some nurses who get ft status with 3 - 12s. Wow.

I just joined a 105 acre club that is well run and fully outfited. I'll be out the week of the 22nd - my new home base.

ARPC: Arnold Rifle & Pistol Club

swipe card for the gate and 8:30 - sundown access. BBQ joint around the corner and rural LGS 2 miles away. Been shooting as a guest for too long - I'm all in!!

Shot 2 targets today, nothing better yet, but did recover one bullet that was shot a little high.
It went through the bag about 1" below the top of the sand and 13" in before stopping.
Bottom circle is entry point, I dug the groove in the sand until I found the bullet in the upper circle.

This is the bullet on the left next to a new one.

Well I finally got out for just a little bit of shooting this month. I took the GSG 1911/22 to the indoor range. It seems like it has been a long time since I did one of these. Anyway let's see if I got it working.
Rule#1
GSG 1911/22
7 yards
55 points
.360" spread on center target

PS: last months targets were very hard to see the holes so I did a little coloring around the holes this time.

Good to see you in Darbo! I'll be at the new "club" Monday and possibly Tuesday as well. I have a testing and shooting to do - a member of the Mossberg Owners site started a 22lr shoot as well - I'll have the chrono out and some new front rests that I built (pics from the range) something the old location had. I should scan some stuff in TU pm - chasing the high bar that has been set!!

Mingaa, sounds like you will have a couple of fun days at the new club! One of these days I will be back to work and will join the local club. I have a feeling my scores will not do me much better than 2nd or 3rd as usual.

Actually I do have one question about the target that I meant to put in my post. The entire flower is scored a ten right? Or is the 10 area just the egg shape circle inside the flower? I scored mine as the entire flower, I hope that is correct.

#14 ·
Well, my wife and I talked and I'd overstayed my time as a guest by quite a bit and ARPC will be home base from now on. Finances still are not great here but I'm set to shoot this season and more so rather than step out I'm able to do the 'right thing' and join up - I made a donation that bumped our tax return up - that helped.

Yes - any hit on the flower was intended as a 10 - I'll do my best in a new environment and squeak in at the end of the month - again!

With all the ammo filling shelves and reloading supplies everywhere you look :) I hope some more TA members will join in the fun as the weather turns more pleasant (depending on your location) and thanks to member and Super Moderator Chicharrones for his always vigilant care and attention!!
