I have an opportunity to get my plastic parts color-dipped, was thinking a nice ivory color on the stainless frame would be nice. Going to do grips and mag bottom plates. Question:
Can I completely remove the main spring housing, and what all would I have to remove from it to get it down to just plain plastic for the process? I've never taken any pistol down that far, and from what I have seen, the LDA is a little nightmare to reassemble. Is this part just as bad, or is it stupid-simple?

I'm doing this because there is really very little in the way of aftermarket accessories for the Para pistols, esp. the doublestacks.

I can't help you with your question, but what you describe will look nice.

Never messed with a LDA?
but a conventional 1911 is simple.
knock the mainspring housing retaining pin out, remove the housing, press down on the main spring via the cap, remove the little pin that holds it, gently let pressure of the mainspring cap, careful its a stout spring, remove the cap, spring and then you should be good to go.
look at a diagram of a 1911 and you can see the parts and how they go together.
I don't think I forgot anything.
