Old style PT-22 Safety
I reacently found a old style PT-22. It has the alloy body, thin wooden grips, nice looking little DA pistol. I cleaned it, took it to my range to test fire it. It is fairly reliable, ( it didn't have the problem with the mag being too high that some had talked about) but after it warmed up even the minimal recoil of the .22 lr caused the safety to engage. I checked my grip and adjusted to be sure I wasn't causing the problem. Has anyone else seen this problem? When I engage the safety manually and when I disengage it seems stiff enough. It has a normal detent on both functions. I guess I could send it back to Taurus, but it will be gone for 3 months or so, and unless they can duplicate the problem when tested they won't spend much time trying to fix it. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have an older PT-22 and have put a lot of rounds through it. Fun little pistol. I've never encountered what you've described.
Recently sent my PT22 to Taurus for repairs to the trigger. Arrived on the 24th of Jan, received a letter stating that it will take 6 weeks to have it finished. Checked status, and it shows already repaired. I think it may be worth a shot. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Taurus warranty repair, personally.
The safety going from fire to safe happened to me the other day for the 1st time. I was bumping mine up with my thumb, not sure why all of a sudden. It was cold so maybe my grip was different. I will shoot it some more if and when it warms up some.

should be a spring and a tiny ball bearing resting on top of the spring to engage a detent in the
safety when applied, check to see if the bearing is still there or the spring may need a stretch.................
Or if there is a piece of lint, carbon, or whatever, in the detent that the ball is supposed to sit in, when the safety is applied.I have not had the families PT22's torn down in a long time, if I remember correctly there

I just checked the safety and it has a distinct and sharp click when moving. As I said. it was cold and I don't think I noticed or felt my thumb engaging the safety. Thanks for the input form you and loudviking.

Mine was shooting multiple rounds so I sent it back to Taurus and they repaired it. They replaced the magazine disconnect which I removed but now it's safe to shoot again.
I have had the safety engage while firing my wife's PT-22. It is very infrequent and I figured it was because I shoot it left-handed. For us, it's mostly a fun plinker so we haven't considered it an issue. It hasn't done that while the wife shoots it right-handed.
Mine is rock solid, no complaints. I think it's the pink grips!
