JACKSON TWP., Summit County — A 13-year-old boy who shot and killed himself in school last month intended to carry out an eight-step school shooting.

The teen shot himself in the head just before 8 a.m. Feb. 20 with a semiautomatic rifle at Jackson Middle School in northern Ohio. The teen’s name is not being released by this news outlet.

Jackson Twp. Police Chief Mark Brink said the student did not use social media often, but they found notes on his phone that showed his “intentions to harm others” through detailed plans in the memo section of his phone.

Authorities said the student had 80 rounds of ammunition on him but do not know why he changed his mind and shot himself.
Among his ramblings about wanting to kill as many people as possible, he allegedly wrote this:

Feb. 18: “I’m going to die doing it, I hate those people, when they interview my parents and ask how they didn’t see the signs they should know it’s not them it’s me and it’s because of how I see the world...I’d hurt and destroy something bigger but my schools an easy target...”
This is the 2nd teenager in the US in the last 6 months to express picking a particular school for a mass shooting for this reason. What is so hard about that statement for some people to understand?

And, one would certainly hope, prior to propagation...

Thank you for removing yourself prior to doing a mass shooting.
And thank you to the person or persons who confronted this future mass murderer before they put their plan into action.

Remind me again how it wasn't a possible mental health issue, or a lack of proper parenting by their parents that was the cause of this persons troubles, but "those evil guns" that talked this person into attempting to commit this heinous crime.

^^^^^THAT^^^^

I have a teenager and am intimately involved in his daily activities. I would know beyond a shadow of a doubt if there was something going on with him. He'd tell me (I have worked very hard to be both parent and friend, but parent first!) - I have absolutely zero doubt.

Simple if a child shows signs of being troubled they should get counseling. Some parents are so wrapped up in themselves that they neglect their children's mental health needs or just seem to ignore it. My wife works with special needs children who some of which have severe anger issues. It is the guardian or parent obligation to keep firearns locked up an away from these kids. Why are these guns not locked up!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 3 kids have taught them about guns since an early age and have ALWAYS had them locked safely away. To this day they are in a safe and a vaultek. I am the only one who knows combination.

Locking up guns is a great idea, but they are just one tool of which there are many. Counseling is a good idea but it's not a magic pill and doesn't have a 100% success rating nor do anti-psychotic drugs. When the day is done people are going to slip through the cracks, we will have to face the consequences and own up to the fact that we can't always win which equates to being human.

So when they going to announce he was on some psychotropic medications?
He didn't need drugs, he didn't need counseling. He needed to have a few less participation trophies, less ritalin and less people telling him how special he was, when he was younger. I hated school, and the snobs that attended it with me too. I punched a few of them in the mouth, but it never occured to me to shoot the place up. Setting off a tactical nuke in the principal's office, yeah, but never shooting a bunch of people, and never blowing out my own brains.
8-step plan for school shooting: Step #1; kill myself.......wait......what?
