Yesterday, I returned from 4-H Camp Ohio in St. Louiseville, Ohio after 4 days of the Ohio 4-H State Leadership Camp. I had the privilege of doing 6 1 hour sessions of basic handgun. 76 kids, 8000 rounds of .22, choice of M&P 22, SR-22, Neos 22, Single 10, Taurus 94 and Ruger MK4 Hunter. Targets were spinners, paper plates, dirty bird targets and playing cards. All but on of the kids shot. Many had never even held a hand gun. By the end of each session, everyone had put multiple holes in targets - 25 foot distance. Many who had never shot put many holes in their targets. The young lady who did not shoot pistol did shoot rifle and did quite well (three of us taught rifle, pistol and archery). Each 3 hour session was split into 3 components.

It's amazing the change in attitude when the mystique is removed and the kids find out it's fun to poke holes in targets at a distance.

I love 4-H Shooting Sports. 76 kids with a whole new perspective on firearms.

It is really awesome that you put the time in and get the opportunity to help promote this fantastic sport! I really think there should be more opportunities like this, it would help the sport, teach the kids respect for the weapons and get them away from video games and TV!

The sad thing is in some school districts if any of the children happen to talk about their experience at school, or post pictures on Facebook, some districts might question them about it. :(
True words. We had a young man in my club who had an already fired .22 casing stuck in the tread of his shoe. He didn't realize it until he got into the school. A teacher saw him remove it, turned him in and he was almost expelled. Just no words.

Changing 1 mind at a time is great. Changing 76 minds at a time is fantastic!!

By increasing our numbers we decrease the potential number of those that would go to the dark side. Indoctrination does begin at an early age you know.

A big Thank you to Divebum for taking his time to share with the future shooters of America and give them a positive look at firearms.
