I've had a back of my mind hankering for a Parker Brothers shotgun for years. Never thought I'd get one, because the only ones I ever saw were priced in the same price range as nice used cars and are behind the glass in the "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" cabinet. But toward the end of last week I spotted one at the LGS on a rack full of Stevens 311's, and Stroger's and such. I literally did a double take..."Is that a PARKER?" It was. I had never seen one on the "regular rack."
I checked it over best I knew how. It was a Parker Trogan. I went home and did some research. I called the shop and had it put on hold. I went back and forth a couple of times to check minor things. Finally my wife told me, "Either buy the thing or shut-up about it."
The Trogan was Parkers bottom of the line shotgun. No frills, but apparently a good solid "working man's gun."
S/N indicates 1924 as manufacture date: 12 ga, 28" barrels, Mod/full, twin triggers, extractors. It has been refinished somewhere along the way. Lockup is tight, bores are shiney.
I took it out back behind the goat lot and hog pen and fired a few rounds of low brass 7 1/2's. I might have to get an old brown canvas hunting coat, a "Jones" style hat, and a straight stem pipe I can turn upside down when it starts to rain.
