Hi all! I am new to handgun handling and ownership (I had only one previous experience firing a handgun more than 15 years ago), and my first purchase was the GX2. I have been on the hunt for the perfect fit gun for years due to my oddly shaped small hands. I've always wanted one for personal safety. I have tested the fit of every micro, sub and compact I could find at every gun show/store we have gone to, and had a short list of ones I could handle safely and comfortably. I couldn't afford the Sig I originally wanted (and still want!), however when I was handed the GX2 from a display a few months ago, it was like Cinderella's shoe! I've only put 100 rds through it, but I feel like this is going to be a great little gun for me to learn with, and maybe eventually carry as I live in a constitutional carry state and to be frank, this world is going to pot lately. I went to the local range last weekend and thought I did quite well for only my first time. I was incredibly nervous, but by the time I went through a couple of boxes of ammo, I was disappointed I didn't have any more to keep going. The target was only 10-12 yards away, but as my husband said, protecting yourself will typically happen only a few feet to a few yards from you.

Pic from the first mag I put through it.

Welcome and good shooting. Your hubby is spot on, 7yrds is the average self defense shooting distance.

Suggestion, instead of using the body shape try some of the targets that have multiple bullseyes on them (the more the better).

While at the range you cannot move but you can get used to aiming at different targets and get your speed up, this somewhat simulates a moving target.

Even better if you can take a video the goal is to get 3 shots on target within 1 second - using FBI stats no matter the caliber 3 shots is needed to stop a threat. Also, same stats, it takes 1 sec for someone to cover the 7yrd distance. While nothing will ever prepare you for this type of event 100%, at least the above gives you a goal to achieve using averages.

Good choice on the 'piece', I think much better than the Sig.

Greetings, glad you found one you like. Maybe the Sig will be a Christmas/birthday/Tuesday present!

Glad your experience went well, and stick around. There are some very helpful and knowledgeable gun people on this board (not me). Don't be discouraged by the rare poster who may blast you for being new or unfamiliar with his "expert" terminology. Most on here are very helpful.

Welcome from SW Virginia (not southern West Virginia). Had a GX3 that I really liked. Also had a 24/OSS 45acp that I really liked but they had a recall on it. Keep it lubed (not dripping), keep it relatively clean, and practice, practice, practice. You should well enjoy your GX2, as it's easy to shoot. I'm guessing it's 9mm. Carry it with good quality JHP's (Gold Dot, Critical Defense, Silver Tips, Golden Sabre, etc..., I suggest you find what you shoot well) don't carry with FMJ rounds as they act as a hole punch, and over penetrate.

Congratulations on becoming your own first line of safety and on finding a good fit.

Maybe search out an IDPA club near you and visit to observe a match. They work from a holster, under concealment and have various target arrays that are engaged while moving and doing magazine changes. You're stage is timed and accuracy measured allowing you to see your improvement and gauge your performance against others.

While constitutional carry is great, attending classes to get permitted to carry outside of Arizona gets you some training in various laws. Good to have when you take a road trip!

Welcome to the group!

All right! Congrats on your new pistol. I picked one up after owning a GX4 for a while. It struck me as kind of a "pre-GX4" that doesn't have the 4's frills, like the changeable backstrap. (Trust me, you won't miss it on your GX2.) Get yourself a few extra magazines and fill them before you go shooting, so your time at the range isn't taken up with what I call "housework" (AKA refilling mags....)

Congratulations on your new purchase! Welcome to the forum!

Practice is the best thing you can do. Don't worry about fancy timed drills. Make sure that you are comfortable and confident. The fancy stuff can wait.

Look around online for cheap range ammunition and shoot often. The process of loading, aiming, slowly squeezing the trigger while staying on target are all important steps. Everyone needs those same steps.

You're off to a good start. YOU did the research and found what feels good to YOU. That's much better than a salesman's version of what he thinks you need.

Ask lots of questions! Shoot lots of ammunition!
Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat. :ROFLMAO:
