i have a chance to buy another marlin 60 and want to ask what ya'll would do. brand new the marlin with wood stock is $165 after taxes, i can get a used one for $75. the used one was bought in 2004, it has bluing wear that i would call blueing at 70% good, very small specks of rust just here and there nothing that would bother me and i'm a rust phobic. the stock is near perfect with great finish. the buffer is in great shape as i tore it down to look at it, the hammer still has the dark color with no shiny wear on it. the trigger isn't worn either. he allowed me to put 50 rds thru it and it worked perfect with not one malfunction, the bolt held back after last rd everytime. accuracy was great i was able to shoot empty 22lr cases at 25yds just about every shot. he has a 3-9x32 scope on it. he just got a new job and better pay and he wants to go to a ruger 10-22 and buy all those extras for it. finally he said he has put about 3-4 550 rd bricks of federal ammo thru it over the years, no fast shooting, just plinking and small game hunting. he said it was carried more than shot. the new one is at wal mart and does have a warranty of 5 years, but even new it not a sure thing that it will be good. used to be i wouldn't buy used as i only bought new but as i have got older i have found out some great deals can come from buying used. but i want ask ya'll, which would ya'll buy knowing this? $75 is his bottom dollar as another guy wants it but i have first chance. thanks

First thing is I don't have experience with that rifle. I'm with you, I like new! Is money tight for you. What else can that $90 buy that you might need. I think for the $90 I might look at the new version. Really a question only you can answer for yourself.

75 bucks for a Marlin 60 with a 3-9 scope is a no brainer. Buy it. even an ultra cheap 3-9 will run you 40 bucks. that means 35 bucks for a Marlin 60.

Listen to your own argument. Buy it.

Buy it. I have one with just a cheap 4 power scope mounted on it and I can shoot rabbits or squirrels in the head consistently at 50 yards....:)

I've got a Marlin/Glenfield 60 I bought in 1978 for like $40 new with a cheap 4X scope. It's been
a great rifle. No telling how many rounds have been through it.

Few years ago I had to replace the "lift arm" and feed block. It wasn't grouping well and I read these
could be the problem. Didn't make sense mechanically but I bought the parts and they did the
trick.

$75 with a scope? Grab it!

All the Best,
D. White

I'd go for the older one.
I bought a new Henry at walmart black Friday sale 3 years ago for about $140??....maybe it was $240 OTD. Very disappointed on the fit and finish. Although it preforms flawlessly - it looks like an el-cheapo knock off. Its not blued....it may? be some type of ceracote.... but looks like its just poorly painted.

I have not seen a Marlin 60 up close in many years....but would like one. I just hope its blued instead of having a poor paint job.
You have seen the old one and fired it- if it passed your inspection- I would grab it up.

Frankly, I know lots of folks like Henrys, but I've always found the .22s cheap and priced like quality. They use zamak in the receiver, why it has to be painted rather than blued like a steel receiver. Why didn't they at least use anodized aluminum, you may ask? Because zamak can be cast dirt cheap and .22 LR doesn't stress it too bad. It'll never outlast a quality steel rifle receiver, though, or even aluminum.

I bought my Model 60 in 2002 from Walmart for $105. It has been perfect and the fit and finish is excellent. I would buy the used one without a second thought.

I would have paid that price just to get that beautiful stock. I’m happy with the 60 variants I have, but that one would be coming home with me. I would find a good excuse to tell the wife, but it would be mine. If it shoots half as nice as it looks you did well. No worse than that bluing rub is, I would hit it with some oxpho blue a time or two and blend it back in.

You done REAL good at that price point, methinks. :D Now, shoot that sucker and let us know how it shoots. M60s have a reputation for great accuracy in a plinker grade rifle. Should make a good squirrel gitter, too. :D Man, it's beautiful and crisp here, but a little too windy. Tomorrow might be the day to chase some squirrel. :D
