The Taurus Striker Fired TX22 | Dryfire Safe – SHOT Show 2019by JEFF CRAMBLIT on JANUARY 30, 2019
Related Tags: .22lr, Buzz, Guns, Pistol, SHOT2019, Taurus

Here at SHOT Show 2019 Taurus has released the TX22, a polymer framed 22 long rifle pistol that is long on features. The full sized polymer frame is not designed for kids, it is a full sized gun that feels good in the hand. The ergonomic grip is designed to give a high hand to bore grip and provides for a naturally pointing pistol. The texture on the grip has a fine stippled feel that would give you confidence in maintaining control even if this were a centerfire gun. The polymer frame and hard anodized aluminum slide make the gun lightweight and a potentially fun plinker or training gun.

Undercut trigger guard and high beavertail give the TX22 a comfortable grip

One of best features on the TX22 is that it comes from the factory with a threaded barrel. It comes with a protective sleeve threaded on which makes the barrel appear to be your standard garden variety factory barrel. However, the TX22 comes with an adapter that replaces that sleeve and has a threaded section beyond the slide that is threaded 1/2 x 28 for attaching a suppressor or muzzle brake if desired. It’s genuinely refreshing to see this level of detail being added directly from the factory rather than having to be purchased as an upgrade or aftermarket.

TX22 disassembles similar to many polymer centerfire pistols
The TX22 has an ambidextrous manual thumb safety located high on the rear of the slide and Taurus’s Pittman Trigger System for safety features. Even with a trigger safety mechanism, the face of this trigger is smooth with nothing moving to distract you from a smooth pull.
Take down latch can be seen above the trigger
The fully adjustable rear sight makes sure you will be on target and the TX22 comes with two 16 round magazines to feed the fun. It also has a mil std accessory rail for adding your favorite light or laser. At a MSRP of $349 Taurus has a solid offering in the rimfire automatic arena.

They hyped that up as "competition ready". I don't get that. Exactly what kind of competition uses compact striker-fired .22's?

They do say it's a full size gun. I would think US Steel challenge. .22s are one of the most common guns used in US Steel challenge.

I really like my PT-22, and was ready to add another 22LR to my collection. It came down to the Walther or the Ruger SR-22, but then I looked at the Taurus website to see if I could get some rosewood grips for my PT-22 and saw the new TX22 and the video. Now it looks like I will be getting the TX22 instead, as long as the reviews are favorable. It sounds pretty good though.

I will get one, once the Beta testing is complete and any issues are corrected. As it is full sized, it will be interesting to see how it compares to another full sized polymer 22lr pistol I have. My S&W M&P 22.

Yeah, I guess you can use anything but you'll be competing against Ruger MK's, Browning Buckmarks, S&W Victories etc. Doesn't seem like it's in that class but I haven't shot one.

Last Saturday I ordered one at our LGS. Why? I don't know, but I was thinking I lack enough .22 pistols.

I think they put a couple more on the order as well.

Can't wait to see them on the shelf! I need a 22 pistol and that looks like what I've been waiting for. I was thinking of getting a SR22 but this looks better.

I've shot club stuff with .22s. IHMSA has a rimfire class and, of course, the targets are closer and easier to knock over. Not sure about other competitions.

Of course, you are right. But, I don't even have a Browning yet! I may give the Taurus some time to prove itself. I don't like being a beta tester. But, if I like what I see, I tend to be a bit impulsive about such things.

So on the TX-22, Does anyone know for sure if the manual safety is also a decocker? It doesn't appear so, as Taurus notes the gun is single action, but if it is, I'll pass. I hate that so much about my SR-22, that I will eventually get rid of that little pistol.

OK, I am getting older and such and could be wrong but does anyone make a SINGLE ACTION pistol with a de-cocker?
I can't see the reason for one if they do?
I mean so you must cock the hammer before putting the gun into motion???
