Hey guys, names travis. I went against what I was told by many old timers and made my first handgun a taurus and couldn't be happier... only thing I can complain is that I can't find a magazine for it. One of the selling point for me was it was 7 round so I didn't have to worry about any potential magazine ban on it and figured I could find them easily, boy was I wrong. But I hope to learn a lot of these forums and meet some solid people.

Howdy.
Yea 709 mags can be like finding hens teeth these days. Place a order for mags with Taurus. They will eventually get caught up on them!

Welcome from StL. MO!!
i carry a 709 frequently - it is a CQB gun - a good BUG. The sight setting should work through its complete effective range 5-25 yds (IMHO ) - the larger concern should be shooting a small semi with a short barrel ( and potentially hot SD rounds) well. Point / sight shooting will work well at very close distances. The 709 requires attention for control and aim at ANY distance beyond 7 yds. IMHO.

Welcome from lower Alabama. A good distance for this size gun is from 10 to 15 yards. This is not a target gun but for SD so if you plan to be shooting at someone farther than that you'er going to have some explaining to do in court.

And maybe, you should consider carrying a long-arm, LOL!

It's funny. I like running the target way the hell out there and getting tiny groups with a good handgun like my 917cs. With these shorty guns it's not a possibility.
