Hello everyone.
Just purchased a new 709 on Friday. I did some research and the 709 seemed like it might be a good fit. After holding one I knew the sights were better for me than the ones on my Springfield Armory SC .40. Now the SA .40 is a fine gun but for me I was never consistent with it and the sights just didn't work for my bifocals(not enough contrast) and not a good sight picture. If you have small hands like me the SA 40 is too big and the trigger pull so much it will pull you off the target. Now my son was a different story. He was very good with the .40. But for me the 709 is a much better fit. At 21 feet after about 80 rounds and some rear sight adjustment I had 10 rounds in a 4" group which is something I never did with the SA .40. Now I did have 3 fail to feed the last round but it's a new gun and while I did clean the rest of the gun before I went to the range I didn't clean the mag. The trigger some say is weird but I really like it. Since it breaks so far back and clean it's very easy to get use to and may spoil me. When I got back home first thing was clean the gun and the MAG. The mag was pretty dang dirty. We'll see how it performs the next time at the range. Happy shooting.

Welcome aboard. I hope you like your 709 as much as I do mine. I'm pushing some 2,000 reliable rounds through it. Now break down that gun and magazine and clean them again. The Taurus packing grease is notorious for keeping things from working properly until it's all cleaned out!

Congrats! Welcome to the family! I love my 709. I had some problems early on, but once I learned how the gun wanted to be gripped I haven't really had once since. Eats cheap ammo all day long, or at least, it still would, if there were cheap ammo to be had these days :)

Welcome from Oklahoma!
:wave:Welcome from northern Michigan!,Glad to hear about your 709,make sure you dissemble the slide and get the 100 weight preservative out of the firing pin channel too.these type of tauri can have significant ftf's & fte's if not cleansed of the Brazilian gunk they seem to spray liberally.sounds like you did a good job on it's first bath.also, sometimes a slight burr can be found on the front of the mag followers and a little sanding with a fine paper or emery cloth takes it off (the follower may nosedive and cause ftf's)

Congratulations on your new firearm.
Congrats, good choice. That guys that said to clean all the preservative out of your gun are spot on, that stuff is like sludge. I'd also say that the FTF's are probably from the mag, most are, after the gun is broken in (200-300 rds) you shouldn't experience those types of problems.
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on selecting one of the best (in my opinion) compact 9's on the market.
Trust me, it will indeed break in fairly quickly. Just keep feeding it!
Congrats on the 709. I love mine. They are great little carry guns.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Now if I can just find some ammo to do some more shooting. I really liked what I was seeing the first time out.

You'll like it even more with more rounds down range. It really is the perfect EDC weapon, at least for me.
Welcome to the forum I had a few FTF when I first shot mine after a little more then a hundred rounds it didnt have no probs anymore.
Welcome to the 709 club. Mine eats any and all ammo i put in it. congrats on the gun.
