Hi all, as in my other post. I really love my new Taurus PT1911. The grips are not bad.

But I am considering a set of nice cocobolo(rosewood) grips.

What do you all prefer Checkered or Smooth? And why?

Oh yeah! Happy Thanksgiving!!! all!

I love the look of a smooth wood grip in any type of wood, but have always had checkered wood grips for the positive traction needed when shooting. The first thing I did on my sons PT was to change the plastic grips out for a set of cocobolo checkered grips........looks very nice.

I got a pair of cocobolo grips from Cheaper than Dirt for $20.00. They needed all of 15 minutes to alter the right side to accomodate the ambi-safety. They came checkered and I like the way they feel...not to sharp, but with a definite grab. I also loved the price.

I think I have decided to go with diamond checkered. I would like to get a set of cocobolo/rosewood grips checkered, but with the indentations that the stock Taurus plastic grips have. Does anyone know where I can get grips like this - or do they all have that indentation(1911 newbie :-[)
