Hey everyone...name is Joel...currently own a S&W Sigma 9VE, I am waiting for my carry permit to arrive in the mail...been about 20 days now (but whos counting), in the meantime I am in the process of shopping for a carry weapon..I am pretty torn between, either the Millenium Pro in a 40, Or the 24/7 Pro Compact in 40cal....so I thought I would check things out here and see what eveyone is talking about.

Welcome to the forums. Came to the right place. Do recommend that you read the FAQs section, old, and new threads on the pistol makes you are interested in. Both 24/7 and Millennium boards would pique your interest. So would the Factory Loads in the ammo board.

We do have members here who have the model S&W that you have, or one of its cousins like it in the same class. Take a look at the Other Guns board . There should be some S&W threads in there.

The question does beg to be asked. If you have a 9mm., why go to the .40 S&W?

Both are excellent cartridges, but the .40 S&W is a high intensity one. There's more recoil with those light weight 155gr-165 gr. than with even a .45ACP. The 180gr.in the .40S&W are more like 185 gr. bullets in .45ACP.

Technique and practice take care of recoil issues.

Not trying to put you on the spot. Have to admit to being a 9mm. user for the most part and a .45ACP user some of the time.

.40 S&W cartridge users can be confident in their pick.

my buddies here in Memphis are all Sheriffs here, they all carry Glock 27 in 40cal. I have shot their guns as well as rented a few before I made the desision. I am going to 40 for my carry piece for stopping power. I looked at and read alot about the PT145 but I never shot one, I cant find one here to shoot to be honest. I am not an ammo specialist (meaning I am learning the differences) but right now, I do see that 40 cal seems less expensive, and I do plan on shooting A LOT at the range. (I have owned the Sigma for 3 weeks and already have 2600 rds through it)

I would have bought the Sigma in the 40 for the house, but I could not beat the $150 I got on the 9mm. I got it used from my cop buddy that only put 200rds through it. I do love it though, and its easy for the wife to shoot.

I would imagine that the kick on the 45 would be pretty intense on the smaller gun, is that not the case?

Hi Joel,
Welcome from Minnesota. I too love the 40's. When I want to shoot alot, I take a 9mm. But I like to carry a 40 or 357 sig when I can. Hope you enjoy it here.

Hi from Cordova,Tn. I have the PT145 and love it. Where do you usually shoot? I usually shoot at Range USA or the TWRA range. If we can get together I'll let you shoot my 45.
