New Armalite Eagle 15 mini unboxing review

Well, I just picked up this fine rifle today. It's made by Armalite under the Eagle Arms division. Simply put, they are what Toyota is to Lexus. Much the same on the inside with minor differences on the outside. They still use Mil-Spec internal parts for the Eagle Arms brand same as they do for the standard Armalite rifles, the only real difference is the buffer tube is not Mil-Spec and the finish isn't quite as durable though still plenty fine for the average civilian.

Now, my particular model is a Cabelas exclusive. It came with a really nice and tight fitting stock and grip made by Mission First Tactical, as well as a 30 round PMAG from Magpul. The trigger guard and rail system (7 inch Keymod handguard) are non-standard and are part of the Cabelas exclusive package. Full details/specs here: Armalite Eagle-15 ORC MFT Semiautomatic Tactical Rifle : Cabela's

The barrel is chambered in .223 Wylde and is 16 inches long with a 1 in 8" twist. The upper and lower receivers fit right and tight with no slop like you'll find in some lower end AR's. I was pleasantly surprised the handguard was metal and not some type of polymer.

Everything on this rifle just absolutely reeks of quality. If it shoots half as good as it looks and feels, I'll be thoroughly satisfied. Need to wait for some warmer weather, though. I'm not so impatient as to go out in these single digit or less temperatures we've been having lately.

I mounted my Eotech HWS on the rifle and have a new mount for a magnifier to put behind the sight on its way. By the time we thaw a little here I should have it ready to go. Once I get the chance to put rounds down range, I'll let you folks know how it did. The looks and feel of this rifle gives me some pretty high expectations.

Very nice - congrats! Fine looking rifle.
I've been looking at the Armalite M-15. It looks pretty good - the other (comparable) rifle for me would be the Colt LE6920.
Del-Ton makes some rifles I would be interested in as well -- and very reasonable prices. (made in NC)

I own a Bushmaster light carbine - which has carbon fiber parts. It's a very accurate, durable, light-weight rifle.

I have two of this one. Comes in a couple of different colors and it's really comfortable, doesn't rattle, and is light!

MFT is Mission First Tactical. It's not Magpul, but it's still top of the line stuff. Nice looking rifle for sure :thumb:.

Thanks all. I'm quite fond of the rifle myself.

I was almost positive the grip and the stock had Magpul insignia on it but I could be wrong. I'll have to look again. Sorry for the misinformation if that is the case.

...and at something of a non-Cabella size price tag! Good catch!

The grip probably does, but the stock is definitely Mission First Tactical (I have two so far and love them! ) but Magpul doesn't make a minimalist stock anything close to it.

Time to have fun with it now!

Nice looking gun. Bet the range report does not disappoint either!!

The MFTs line is a little uneven but the stock leads the pack. I have one on an MSR and it does its job and is lightweight as well.

You can see right in the picture the grip say MFT so I'm definitely mistaken. I edited my OP.

Ok so I finally got out to the range today. Got it all sighted in with the Eotech and magnifier with some factory ammo and then ran some of my reloads through it. A very successful day to say the least. It shoots very well with the factory ammo and just as well with my reloads without having to adjust making some pretty darn close to 1 MOA groups at 100 yards. I only have 3x magnification behind the Eotech so this was very satisfactory as far as I'm concerned. Very pleased with this rifle.

I forgot how fun it is to shoot an AR. No recoil, the sound of the buffer spring next to your ear, accurate, and the darn thing reloads itself :D I've been shooting bolt actions pretty exclusively for a good while so this was definitely a change of pace.

Only complaint I can even come up with is just a typical "issue" with these particular rifles. The trigger is very crisp with a nice, short, positive reset but... it is a bit heavier than I would like. Not a huge issue but, like I said, I've been shooting a lot of bolt actions the past few years and I'm probably expecting too much. Still love it and will recommend it to anybody. It is a very nice, sturdily built AR. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed the cheaper options have a bit of awkward rattle/wiggle between receiver halves and this one has none of that.

I got an Eagle Armalite shortly after my wife and I watched Dallas cops getting ambushed on live TV. I love it and it is a good shooter.

Haven't read all the comments preceding this post, but an AR is an Armalite Rifle. Congrats on your new carbine.

I like to tease my buddies and say I got the real AR and they have the imposters :D

Nice rifle and set up, congrats. I like the EOTech red dots. I have one on a Stag rifle and another with the laser on an Palmetto AR pistol. I just bought my first Aimpoint red dot for a Bushmaster AR and was thinking of getting a 3X magnifier with a tilt off base for that.

I really like my mount for the magnifier. I'll look and see if I can find a link for it. It was a bit pricey but it's much more solid than the Primary Arms switch-to-side mount.

Here it is. Absolute co-witness height.
