I was able to hunt down a Blued 617 produced in 2011. I got her brand new off of Gunbroker and picked it up at my FFL yesterday afternoon. It's still coated in cosmoline, but not for long. Since this is my first revolver, does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to get the packing grease out?

Congrats on the 617 ! I would use Gunscrubber on it, and there is a thread here stickied under Taurus Revolvers that shows how to pop the sideplate off, if you think it might have some in there as well. You would flush it out with GS or CLP, let it dry, then spray it with a lube lightly, then put the plate back on.

Good luck !

Congrats on the 617. My wife has it's little brother the 817.
+1 on what texastaurusguy said. My wife's was coated in cosmoline so I sprayed it down with CLP and after it dried put a light coating of lube.
Enjoy your new 617
