Well, today I traded my Rossi 720 for a NIB Ruger 22/45 with 4" bull barrel. I have never owned a Ruger before and my only experience with them was shooting a friends OLD Mk I once at the range. What do I need to know about this gun?

Use the manual for dis-assembly and re-assembly. Getting these back together is a pain in the rear end. A company does make a kit to make it easier and its on my list of things to get and install in my 22/45 mkII.

+1 I HEAR they are a pain to take apart and put back together, but in the 5 years of owning my 22/45 I have never had to disassemble it, and it is one of the best 22's I've ever owned. I had a bunch of internal work done by a good ruger gunsmith here, and slapped a red dot on it and a couple other little toys and it'll shoot minute of golfball out to 50 yards+ all day long.

taking them apart and putting them back together isn't that difficult...not as intuitive or straightforward as other guns, but not that difficult. Probably the most annoying thing about it is having to put the magazine in to pull the trigger to release the hammer (thanks to the magazine disconnect). They're kinda like jigsaw puzzles, with major assemblies locking other major assemblies in-place.

You don't really have to take them apart, though, if you can get in there with a q-tip and a boresnake...

Wow, I forgot all about posting this. Since getting the Ruger I have been to the range a couple times and this thing is an absolute tack driver. The gun was fun the first time out, but I had a scope base and cheap BSA red dot put on and now it is just awesome! I love shooting the rimfire steel's with it.

My Mk 2 has a 2x LER scope on it and is a shootin' machine! I haven't taken it apart. I clean it with the bolt back. 3K or so rounds through it and it's still 100 percent except for a bad primer charge now and then on the Fed bulk pack cheapo stuff. I get a dud our two out of every 550 round box, not just the Ruger, either, but it's cheap. Such is life with rimfire.

BTW, I have 6 other Rugers. Rugers are tough and great values.
