For Self Defense purposes!
H&R Pardner Protector 12 Gauge Pump.

Very Smooth action. Holds 5 in the magazine + 1 in the chamber. I can take out the extra knob in the magazine spring and it will hold 6 in the magazine. Great Gun. Based on the Remington 870. $150.00 ;)

There you go ! Every home needs a good 18'' barrel self defense "riot" shotgun. Post up a range report when you can !

Well played! A whole lotta folks overlook shotguns as home defense weapons with the black rifles and big bore handguns grabbing the headlines. The “stop the threat” factor with that thing should dance circles around anything else you might use . . . . unless you have a claymore or two as safe room enforcers.

Congrats. I have a couple of pumps but adding a short barrel to one of 'em would cost as much as your shotgun. :D They're both Mossbergs and they're my waterfowl guns.

Happy shootin'!

Sweet deal!! Congrats!!! I've been wanting one just like that for the same reason.
A shotgun is the most devastating HD tool a citizen can bring to the fight, when the chips are down it's my go to HD gun.

I bought one a couple of years ago. Great price for a solid gun. Very effective defensive weapon, too.

Before I bought my Maverick 88 I would look periodically for used and cheap Winchester Model 12 guns in 16 gauge. I have a vintage gun in excellent condition and absolutely did not want to cut that one down, but figured if I could find a project gun I could chop down the barrel to 16.5". Prices were too high and the ammo choices too limited.
Well, both of my Mossies are for hunting, ain't cutting 'em down. They have screw in chokes and vent ribs. A cut down vent rib barrel would look a bit strange, I'd think. When I did keep a shotgun handy, I just loaded my 20 gauge coach gun with 3 buck. I still have that gun. For a while it was retired for my new AR/M4, but I've locked THAT one up, too, and just rely on my carry gun for home defense. I will occasionally need a gun for a pig in the back yard or a coyote or something, but the magazine is loaded on my SKS rifle with laser spotlight, my hog hunting gun. All I need do is open the safe and grab it. I'll have time to do that with critters. :D
Nice! Shotguns are just about the best thing there is for Home Defense, plus they're cheap, thus making them accessible to just about everyone.

I have both a shotgun and big bore handgun in one! ;)

Nice pickup!
I'm sure the H&R partner is a fine weapon, but I think I'd opt for a Mossberg Maverick if I wanted a riot gun. I'm partial to the Mossbergs, anyway, from hunting so many years with 'em and the Maverick is just a Mossberg assembled by Mexican labor that crosses the border in Eagle Pass every day for work. Hey, $7.25 an hour is a HECK of a lot more than they'd made SOUTH of the river. :D

But, the main difference as I see it in the Mossberg 500 and the Maverick is the safety. The safety really doesn't matter to me on a home defense gun as I'd never manipulate it. If I need the gun, it'd be stored with no round and safety off. Need it? Jack a round in it and you're ready to rock and roll. I MUCH prefer a tang safety on a hunting shotgun especially since I'm left handed (shooting, eye dominance thing), but the safety don't matter in home defense.

H&R Pardner Protector!!! Range Report. Have been to the range three times with my 12 gauge pump!!! Awesome. Got the plug out. Holds five in the mag,,,,very smooth action and packs a punch. Feel comfortable enough with it to have 5 Winchester 00 Buck in the magazine. Wonderful Home Defense Gun. I love it!

The Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 (as well as their respective knock-offs) are clear choices for those wanting and/or needing the deterrent capabilities and awesome stopping power of a pump-action shotgun! If have an 870 12ga with an 18" barrel. I bought a Mossberg 500 Bantam 20ga for my daughter when she moved into an apartment in a sketchy part of Minneapolis. That's a sweet little shotgun!😎.
For those times when a guy just doesn't have the time or strength to cycle the pump-action 😉, I picked up a shortened (23") barrel for my Remington 1100 auto-loader👍. You, of course, lose the famous sound of the pump-action racking that shell into the chamber (instilling abject fear into the very soul of ne'er-do-wells world-wide)😁 but letting the bolt fly forward has a distinctive sound too!

'Grats on the pump gun; just bought my own first one of those too, though it's a "compact" version... a 12-gauge Mossberg Shockwave in February. Already had a Mossberg 930 semi-auto, and added a Judge Magnum between those 2 to round out the collection.

Looks like you're having fun figuring out its diet.
