Definitely J frame class. But with the underlug on the Taurus, it won't fit into holsters specifically molded for the S7W j frame, i.e. Blackhawk Serpa. Possibly, in a leather model, you could work it in, but the kydex models have no give at all.

M85s are slightly larger (longer I think), but fit most holsters for the J frames.
Not the Fobus Kydex holsters. I have both an 85 & a S&W J frame. They are different, but not by much.

Fobus has a Taurus 85 specific holster.
Blackhawk does not, and the 85, or in my case, the 605 doesn't fit. It is the underlug on the barrel that causes the problem.

A lot of holsters are made gun specific.. and then again not. A majority are though.

Have had to find Taurus 85 specific holsters with mine. Generic holsters like Uncle Mike's may fit more than one brand, make , or model.

Just to muddy the waters I do have a Bianchi holster that fits the PT111 Mil/pro, but is made for a Glock 26.

I have the Fobus Kydex holster for a Taurus 85. However, I have a Taurus 605 and the Fobus/TA85 doesn't fit it worth a damn. You can get the 605 in there OK, but getting it out is another story. I'm sure the 85 would fit just fine.

Wow, I wonder why? The TA85 I have fits my 605 perfectly. Is your gun an older model? Get ahold of Fobus and tell them you have a problem. They will probably just send you another.

+1. I would think the M85 and M605 are so close in size as to not be an issue.

Just measured my M605 cylinder. It measures 1.370". The Taurus catalog shows the M85 cylinder as 1.346".
The extra .024" could be enough on a very tight holster to affect the fit.
Just looked at the Fobus website, and it states the T85 holster fits the 85 and 650. The Taurus website shows the 650 cylinder at 1.378".
