I have a question on Taurus Mdl 817. It's a .357/.38 spl revolver. It does not state anywhere on it or in their catalog if it's '+P' capable.
Considering it's for a .357 load, would it also be safe for '+P' .38 spl rounds? Thanks in advance.

The M817 is +p rated. Chambered for .38 special NOT .357 Magnum.

Indeed. The Model 617 is the .357-Magnum version. (I have one and it's a great little gun!)

Most Taurus revolvers are +P rated, unless they say somewhere on them that they aren't (like my magnesium Taurus 856 Hy-Lite).

I have an M817 Ultra-Lite and the Taurus catalog states that it is +P rated.

I second what MR_22 states, if yours is chambered for.357, it is a M617 and yes, it will handle .38sp +P loads with ease!

As these folks have said the 817 is +P rated. Some older gun owner manuals have the 817 mentioned. Which years can be hard to tell but I have seen it.

Caliber: .38 SPL +P RATED

Other 817 model info from same sight:Model: 817SS2UL

Grips: Ribber
UPC: 7-25327-32099-9

I have an M-817 2" SS Ultralite, .38 7 shot that does NOT say +P anywhere, not even the box. Is this an early model? The Model # is 2-817029UL

BillS2015. Welcome!

Your M817 will handle +P with no problem. Go to the Taurus USA website and take a look at the specs for your revolver. Yours is exactly like mine.

Just like it, grips and all. Thanks for the answer. I was pleasantly surprised when I first shot it, acceptable recoil and outstanding accuracy.
