No. Taurus did not make these in .44 Special. The models 441 or 431 were. These were 5 shot only cylinders. .44 Specials can be shot from .44 magnums in complete safety the same way .38 Specials can be fired out of .357 magnums. This does leave an accumulation of carbon and grit residue in the cylinder chambers that needs to be removed after every shooting session. The Taurus model 445 was also a 5 shot .44 Special model. Has a 2 inch barrel. No longer made. Neither are the models 442 or 431.

I had one of the first M44's I purchased in 1995. Kept it for along time. Recently purchased a M44C Tracker 2 1/2 " ported in .44 Mag. Closest I could find to a .44 Special only revolver. I shoot Georgia Arms 200 Grain GoldDot and they are only $47.00/100, Magnum loads about the same. Try buying GoldDot ammunition from online retailers and they run at around $1.00 each at least. That is why I went to Georgia Arms. M44C is a great carry gun, very accurate and lockup and trigger are excellent.
