Hi all,
I'm looking for a carry gun, and considering both of these. I like the DA/SA features of the taurus, but the p-11 seems a little thinner. Anyone have experience with both? If so, is one superior (in your eyes).
Thanks,

Although I do NOT have a 111 or a P11, I do have a
PT140 and a KT PF9.
PF9 is thinner than the P11, single stack versus double stack.

The PF9 is much lighter and it fits in the pocket better than the PT140.
The PF9 has more bite and not as pleasurable to shoot as the PT140.
I feel the tolerances and finish better on the Taurus better than the KT.

Both have been 100% reliable with the 3-400 rnds I have put through them,
and I consider both an excellent value.
I think "how" you plan to carry should be looked at.
IWB I carry the PT or something else. For in pocket its the KT.

Get out the snacks, beverages, and make some time to go through all this. This is a compilation of Keltec,Taurus PT111, and Glock material for comparison purposes.

Ham, I carried a P-11 in a SmartCarry holster daily for at least 6 months, and loved every minute of it. Being that I'm left handed, I thoroughly enjoyed the DAO, and the light weight along with it being very easy to conceal. I called Kel Tec to see what they considered it's life expectancy to be and they told me approximately 6,000 rounds. I never had a minutes trouble with it the whole time I had it...but I gave it to my son-in-law when I purchased my PT 145 Pro SS. I thought I liked my P-11, but I L O V E my PT 145. I use the same holster to carry it as I did the P-11 and a spare mag. The 145 is about the same size as the 111, I've put both of them together and the width is quite close to being the same. The Taurus, in my opinion is more durable in the long run, I still have my P3-AT that I'll never give up, but I wouldn't trade my PT 145 for another P-11 either. 8)

I too have a PT145 and a Keltec PF9. Apples and oranges, really, my PT145 is my conceal carry weapon, it has been totally reliable. I'll probably carry my Keltec in the hot, hot summer months (July and August) if I'm wearing lighter clothes all the time. The PT145 is a dream to shoot, the Keltec is not what I'd call a range gun - put 50 or so through it, then you're about done because it's not overly pleasant to shoot.

I think the Keltec's perfect niche, besides last resort deep concealment, is a trip to the mailbox, going for a walk, that kind of thing.

I replaced a KelTec P-11 with the P145. While I liked the Kel Tec and their customer service is top notch, I prefer the P145. The KelTec has a DAO trigger with a pull of 8 1/2 lbs. No safety, as the heavy trigger is supposed to serve that purpose. Sights are plastic and have been reported to pop off or break off. They also require a wierd "w" hold to hit on target. See the KelTec forum for details. Recoil is snappy and coupled with the heavy trigger takes its toll in about 50 rounds. In comparison, I found the overall finish on the KelTec to be rougher and less refined than on the P145. I find the size of each to be comprable but prefer a .45 over the 9mm

Depends on your wants and needs...between the 111 and the P-11, I think I would go with the Taurus. However, for me, the decision really comes down to IWB or pocket carry. I live in AZ and for me, I greatly prefer pocket carry, which really limits your choices...I have a PT145, and also have several Kel-Tec PF9's...I really love the PF-9...the fit and finish on them seems a little nicer than the other Kel-Tecs, the trigger pull is improved over the P-11, along with the much better sights...the big plus on the PF is that it is thin enough to work for pocket carry...it holds less at 7+1, but I carry an extra mag. Most of the time I carry the PF9 in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster...works great for me with the cloths I wear, and it is much easier to deal with than IWB. If you are looking for something to put a lot of rounds through at the range, I would go with the Taurus, the Kel-Tec is good for practicing say 50 rounds, after that your hand will buzz a bit! Shoot a little...carry a lot...

I have no problem going through 200 rounds with my P11 in a day at the range. I like that I have 12+1 capacity with it too.

This is a what fits you and your needs kind of situation. Either the Taurus PT111 Mil/pro or the Kel-tec would fit the bill.

While we can all advise we cannot know what will fit you and your needs. Our experiences and observations can be as a guide, but that's all.

Let it be recommended that you go to a number of stores and try them out. Even it it's to just handle them. The Taurus seems to fit a larger number of people's hand sizes, but the Keltec shouldn't be put out just because of that.

I'd rather have the sights on the PT111 over the P11. Never liked plastic sights. Not usually as dureable as other types. Personal choice, that.

Having more experience with the Taurus PT111 makes me say that may be the one to go with.

Never had issues with the Mil/pro. Just have to get used to SA/DA triggers and their ilk.

i had the same question, after much research the keltec didn't even compare, too many people bitching about them online, problems problems problems. it was a choice between taurus and the new slim walther. once i held them both in my hands, the 111 3rd gen got the nod hands down. i hated the pps once i saw it in person.

No offense intended Kel Tec P-11 owners, but I would opt for the Mil Pro 111 for...

1. Overall better reliability
2. A better ergonomic grip
3. External safety
4. Considerably better trigger pull
5. Better sights

P-11's are lighter, and if you "test drive" one next to a P-111 you'll next it has considerably more recoil/muzzle flip, and the heavy trigger that stacks just at the time off break.

The P-11's in may area (including my neighbors that went back to the factory 3 times) have had horrendously heavy trigger pulls, were famous for having their take down pins fly out during firing sessions (order an oversized one from the factory to stop this problem), and were notorious for breaking trigger or hammer springs.

Not counting looks...the Taurus just looks right! ;)
