The ignorance when it comes to firearms that Hollywood and the news media has is
appalling. I am watching a crime show based on real events called Fatal Encounters.
Not one time, or two times but three times the narrator called the magazine for a
Colt Government Model .45ACP a clip! My wife got tired of me yelling "It's a magazine,
not a clip"! Do these people even bother to do any research when guns are mentioned
in television shows?

I see a big sign every time I walk into the Gun Show it says "Gun Clips". Every show I say you know they are called magazines? I get a nasty look and a yes but our customers don't. Some justice, last show the banner said "Gun Clips and Magazines" which I guess is correct because they do sell a few clips.

They aren't the only ones.
I've yelled at people at work before, because they called a magazine a clip.
There are stupid people everywhere. They don't know they're stupid.

There is a big difference between being stupid and uninformed or misinformed. We need to be careful about blanket statements.

I'm constantly learning new things here and other places. Does that mean I was stupid or just uninformed?

Uh, it's television. There is no reason to expect anything remotely intelligent or beneficial to come out of it.
The only good programming I ever saw on our last tv was when I removed the tube, it was an old tv, and made an aquarium out of it.

My son and I went to a gun show a couple of weeks ago. He freaked out when the sign at the front door stated "NO LOADED WEAPONS, NO LOADED CLIPS". He pointed at the word "clips", looked at me and screamed: "Really, Dad, at a gun show!, really? They are Mag-a-zines!"

I don't usually pay attention to it, but I was reading a WEB Griffin book and he calls it a clip in there.

Does not bother me, and the vehemence on the topic reminds me a bit of the punctuation police you will find on some forums.

Meh. I used to get bent out of shape at the clip/mag issue, but I've decided to "let it go". It's just become common vernacular, and not worth the effort. Many times I will speak up and ask them if what they are describing has a spring in it. If they say yes, then I correct them and educate them on the difference.

What really frosts my nards is when they pull the "semiautomatic/automatic" craziness, because I see that as actually damaging to the culture.

Gotta pick your battles anymore...

The clip vs magazine deal gets on my nerves... But definitely not as bad as the semi auto vs auto mix up.... Or the term "assault weapon" ..... Or ... Lol just kidding. That's about all of them for me lol

 You mean they're not clips?! :p It doesn't bother me when people mix it up. Some people I know, who have had guns much longer than I have, mix up terminology all the time. Heck, one guy didn't know what I was talking about when I was talking about an on-waist-band holster. I find most of the people I encounter just don't care as much as I do.
