I was looking at the 651 on the Taurus web site. The description specifies, right on the web page, "+p."

Is this another model which Taurus and others warn elsewhere NOT to use +p in on more than rare occasions?

Well, since the 651 is a 357 magnum I'd think it could handle a steady diet of +P without any problems.

At the Taurus web site and in the catalog as follows:( and this has been in print here at this forum frequently enough :) )

+P RATED
All Taurus handguns are engineered to accept a steady diet of factory-new-Plus-P (+P) ammuntion built to SAAMI specifications. This includes the Ultra-Lite hammer forged aluminum alloys, Titanium,, blue steel and stainless steel models.
So that tells the story.

There are many threads here at this forum dealing with standard pressure and +P ammo. This especially true for the Taurus 85,651,851 and all their brethren. All are of common lineage or ancestory.

Yes, I posted one such quote recently myself.

But there also have been posts saying this is not true, that you must only use +p occasionally and that in the actual gun delivery boxes Taurus sends warnings not to use +p.

I'm trying to reconcile the two kinds of posts.

Some things need updating as far as Taurus goes and the manuals are in that department.

There specs for bullet speed and weight are fine. There are some +P loads that approach that too.
Then calls to CS I've made have said +P was fine.
Then there are these links.

Figured that since the CS people okayed it and the manuals are known for needing udating then +P was fine under most circumstances as this has been covered in other threads and posts.

Common sense says the factory CS,catalog, and web site okay +P then it's okay to shoot +P. If it walks like a duck, quacks like duck, eats like a duck, flies like one, and looks the part, it is in fact a duck.
Common sense also says there are standard pressure loads out there that will fill the bill as well. There are many threads and other links I can put up about that if there is still some doubt.
If there is then go with good standard pressure loads for practice and defense.

Taurus snubbie's have been rated for +P for quite a while. This is a settled topic unless one wishes to dredge up old garbage to rehash.

I was, of course, asking about a specific model. But I hope this thread helps things in general - IF this thread is actually seen by many people. That, of course, isn't guaranteed, just as it isn't guaranteed that everyone has seen old "dredged up" posts.

Perhaps it is relevant to remind that I haven't been on here very long, but I HAVE seen posts against using +p made or referred to in that time. That is to say, I don't think it is really at all necessary or helpful to get hostile and accuse me of wishing to dredge up old garbage.
