Hello any and all,

I purchased my PT111 is December 2017 and has been working beautifully. But recently I started hearing a clicking sound, so investigated and found that the piece in the picture below is wiggling quite a bit. Enough to be audible in my holster at my hip. Now I’m not a super avid gun part person, so I don’t even know what this is called(hence the coloring on the photo).

So my question is: Is this purely annoyance or will this hinder my firearm’s capabilities?

I'm not all that sure what the part is called or what it does but looking at my own it appears that it sits in a machined recess in the slide when in the 'normal' position and would be depressed by the slide when it moves rearward. If you shake the gun with the slide in place does it make the noise and then the noise goes away if you lock the slide in its rearward position and shake it? Seeing that the slide bears on that part when it moves rearward I believe that would be the case..

I noticed the machined notch in the slide as well. The sounds continues whether it’s in normal position or if the slide is pulled back. I even tested it while holding the slide slightly back and holding it about 1/2 and 3/4 to rearward position.

It seems that no matter where the slide is positioned the piece continues to move around.

That was what piqued my curiosity, how you determined where the noise was coming from. I'm far from a gun expert but have fooled with a lot of mechanical devices. It seems to me that with the slide in the rearward position it would be bearing on that part and I would think if not eliminating, at least changing the noise if that was where it was from.


That the slide position doesn't affect the noise makes me wonder if the cause might not be something else?

It's the disconnector and it does rattle. I've a PT111 G2 with 5,000+ rounds through it and it does tend to rattle. It is supposed to keep the pistol from firing in an out of battery condition.

Are my eyes playing trick on me or is that a crack in the frame just aft of the disconector. If so this could be the reason for the noise that you are hearing. I do not presently have an PT111 to look at as mine is in for the recall.

I don't see any cracks anywhere in the picture. The part in question is the Slide Disconnecter. If it rattles a little bit, it's ok. It happens occasionally. Mine doesn't make any noise.

It is a slide disconnecter -- when you are removing the slide and have to pull the trigger that part unlatches the slide . It's a extra latch as the main latch is above the trigger on both sides . You can sand down a little of the connector that it rides on to remove some grit in the trigger pull

See the yellow arrow that I added to OP photo this is the area that appears to have a crack in the pistol frame. But perhaps it is not just looks that way.

If its a crack, which I think it is, It needs to be sent to Taurus in Miami to be checked out.

Yep, that is a serious split not a shadow. The two sides fit back together nicely. It does happen with polymer-gripped pistols (even Glocks get cracked grip frames). Taurus will make it good. Be sure to include the pictures indicating where the problem is located. I would check the inside with a flashlight to see how far down the split extends, but the width suggests it probably extends a good ways down inside. Also, check under the rear right-side rail to see if it extends back farther out to the tang. It looks like it might.
