...for around $450. The serial number shows that it was produced in 2010. Cylinder lockup has a bit of play, with a little less play with the trigger pulled and held. LGS guy (ex LEO and knowledgeable about guns) says nothing to be concerned about. Clean cylinder bores and barrel. Good price? What else should I inspect and check?

Sounds like a decent deal to me. It's to a steal, but it's reasonable, IMO.
Thank you. I assume you mean to say "it's NOT a steal"?

You did not mention the finish but being a 2010 model it might have added value of the older and nicer blue or stainless.
The model number, 44SS4, indicates the finish. The "SS" stands for Stainless Steel.

It sounds like it has had some heavy loads thru it. The pounding from heavy recoil loosens things even on S&W model 29s and Ruger Redhawks. Buy a new one and shoot it loose yourself. :D ;)
