I was recently over at a relatives house working on something, and I heard one of the male children watching a video of a guy playing a video game. It was a video game where the player has to rob stores, people, and steal cars. In the video the player is yelling at his "victims" to give up money or other various items, which they do. I asked the boy watching this if any of the other characters in the game are ever armed and shoot the player. He said no, the only ones that have a gun is the player and the cops. I asked where are the police, and he said they aren't there at the time the player is robbing people. He said by the time the police arrive the player will be somewhere else. Sounds a lot like some places I've lived at in real life.
I asked why doesn't the manufacturer of the game make it more interesting and realistic and have all the other characters have concealed handguns. This way when the player goes into a store and tries to rob the place, he has to deal with that. The boy said no, that wouldn't work, because you'd never be able to "win" the game if everybody that's a victim could shoot you. Even if the player shot one victim, he couldn't shoot them all before getting shot himself.
