Aside from the obvious differences between Jacketed Soft Point, Jacketed Hollow Point, and Full Metal Jacket Soft Points, are there any other descernable differences between them. What do you carry, and recommend. Trying to decide on what I'm gonna use once I get my permit. Thanks for y'alls input.

I've been using Speer Gold Dots in my 9mms in the 124 gr. non + P loading. However I'd feel equally at ease with premium ammo from Corbon, Winchester, Buffalo Bore, Federal, Remington or one of the other manufacturers.

On the subject of softpoints. Softpoints have been known to act just like FMJ rather than like hollowpoints. For the most part it takes extremely high velocity to get them to expand. More so than most high velocity handgun rounds have as far as velocity goes.

These need closer to rifle velocity to expand consistently. That's why in part JHPs are more suitable for most defense situations. Or softpoints work well on big game, but not so well on humans.

Ammo companies and the ballisticians experiments and field reports confirm this all. There can be exceptions to this. Not a lot, but a few.
