Don't you just love Christmas. The smell of mulled wine, stollen, all that Christmas cake. The sound of carols being sung.. the 'ping' that tells you yet another festive email has arrived..!! Now I have very good first hand experience of the good old USA, we have friends we visit in NY state, DC, Jackson MS and Loiusiana. Good people all. And I'm well versed in the excitement only a Brit can enjoy from a shopping trip to either Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas (being that they are one and the same now..). I totally enjoy the exceptional US customer service, where people truly do go out of their way to help you. BUT...

Please Mr Bass Pro Shops, Please Mr Cabela STOP sending me sales emails every two hours..!!! Yesterday, the seventh day of December, in the year of our Lord 2019, I recieved no less than THIRTEEN emails from BPS and Cabela's.. that's TWENTY-SIX emails..!!

It began, last month, with the occasional one or two. But as we get nearer to Christmas so the number of emails has increased.. Frustratingly there are very few 'offers' I could sign up for and NONE of them would reach me in time for Christmas anyway..!!

Our 'hunting, shooting and fishing' outlets in GB don't fare as well at Christmas it being very much of a niche market so you might get the odd $5.00 off an item, but don't hold your breath for mega-discounts, you're never going to see them over here.

Now some of you may know that my wife is a vicar (pastor) in the original version of your Episcoplian Church. Se was ordained some 25 years ago, so she's 'been around'. Her current appointment has her running two parishes so you can imagine it's quite a hectic time of year for us. Two of everything going on. And with all this in mind you could be forgiven for thinking she's not happy receiving a multitude of emails from the above retailers..!! To the extent she accidently copied and pasted a link into the church webpage... swiftly seem by dozens of parishoners, and just as swiftly deleted..!!

All in all we accept the emails with good faith as we do, from time to time, shop online with both stores. I guess it's just a sign of the times..

Now where did I leave my glass of port...??

I'll address the latter part first. I would be setting up a GMail, Hotmail, etc for myself and letting all of the retailers know of the switch. Mixing personal and professional is never a good idea. I have a couple of different emails so I can use one particularly if it is an apparent spammer situation. My "legacy" email I've had for decades now with Comcast gets jammed with spam...you are fortunate to only have Cabela's and Bass Pro inundating your inbox. Try shopping with a couple of dozen purveyors of guns and equipment and toss in Amazon for the icing. I regularly have to delete a couple of hundred emails per day....of the laptop and the phone as they coming bombing in on both.

Merry Christmas to you and yours in the auld country. My prayers are with the UK that 2020 will be the year that you folks reflect the will of the people and sever those ties with the EU who would love to control every last aspect of your law, finances and culture.

First, we don't do Christmas.
People go completely insane and they are to be avoided.
As far as emails go, just like our cell phone, we have a spam program that blocks and deletes
any email that isn't from someone in our contacts list. We don't even see it.....it goes bye bye.
I don't want phone calls from strangers......I don't want emails from strangers.
They can sell their crap to someone else.

This is one of the reasons that I have a half a dozen email addresses- including one set up specifically for giving out to companies like Bass Pro that I really don't care if I hear from.

If you look at the very bottom of the E-mail, you will see in very small print a place to unsubscribe. Click on that and you will no longer receive the unwanted E-mails. You are welcome.

Sadly it's a sign of a society more in love with their monetary God than the Lord Jesus Christ. Since I'm not Christian I get to see how Christianity works from the outside. This may offend some but it's an observation and nothing more. Many people who call themselves Christian merely wear the facade of Christianity while lauding platitudes of scripture. BPS/Cabelas though not a christian based company like say Chik-fil-A, will spam the snot out of you from november through december to get their books into the black. They worship the almighty dollar firstly with giving Christian beliefs a nod and not much more. It's just a choice of being right for their stockholders over being morally right in their actions.

That's pretty much how I feel about it.
However instead of using 4 lines to say it I would have just posted "greed".
Maybe the word "obnoxious" or "irritating" or or or............wait........I'm back up to 4 lines again.
Never mind............;)

We are a consumer driven economy that derives 70% of it's GDP from purchasing things we need, want, and sometimes desire even though we don't "need" it. Additionally these are publically owned companies with investors ranging from unions, private pension funds and individuals. Many jobs here depend upon their marketing efforts and I don't mind it a bit. Unsubscribe, ignore, delete but don't knock the system that has made the USA the envy of the world. I can celebrate the birth of the Christ child and enjoy the sales at the same time.
