Sorry to hear of your misfortune!
If the end of the Barrel is bulged out, not much, except trim it back to 16 inches and recrown it. Have that barrel checked out from end to end!!! Make sure that there are no bulges, period! If there are any bulges, you will have to replace the barrel.
Good Surplus barrels from some of the Custom Shops that specialize in customizing Mini-14's can be had at reasonable prices, and that is the way I would go.
Depending upon when your Mini-14 was made, the barrel is either pinned in or threaded into the reciever. The pinned in barrels are easy to replace. The threaded ones require an action fixture.
