So, I have mentioned 1 or 2 or 12 times in the past that I sold my PT809 C(ompact) because I wanted to buy a full size 809.

That was last spring that I sold it and wouldn't you know it...Murphy came by with his damn laws and i used the money on something else. Probably bills, but between that time and now I ended up buying a 20 gauge slug gun and a .45 revolver...so I can't blame him completely.

Now, I have been chewing on my wife's ear ever since I sold the 809C that I was gonna buy a full size 809.

Been looking at a few here and there, but in the end, the best deal was at my LGS. Then about 3 weeks ago, I saw online that it was on sale for about $90 cheaper!

So last night I went to mu LGS's site and clicked on the image to look at it again like I do every night, and almost crapped my pants. Not only was the sale price gone, but the price went up almost another $100 more than the pre sale price. I almost cried and started looking at .357's .

This morning, I went back and saw the gun gain, clicked on it and the price was back at the sale price.

Then I saw what happened:

For purposes of illustration only, they use a basic image. The same image was being used for a 809 stainless as was being used for the 809 blued that I wanted.

Had I not caught that, I would have bought a different gun.

Phew! Close call as far as I am concerned.

So...You ever ALMOST give up on or buy a different gun than the one you wanted?

Yes. I bought a double barrel 12 gauge, when I was looking for a 12 gauge pump. I made up for it later. Now I have 3 Winchester 1300's and a 1200.

I was looking for one like this

The moral of the story? It's not exactly a tragedy if you eventually end up with both! :D

Years ago a good friend owned a gun store. He would page and when I called he would start. " you know that Black hawk you are looking for. Yes, did you get one? No but come by I got a Redhawk you will like" or whatever he thought I may buy. I really miss the old horse trader. We traded a lot, I bought a lot and he was always good for a laugh and cold beer after closing time. So yes he sold me several over the years I knew him.

YEP! When I was in the market for a 44 magnum I wanted a S&W model 29 with a 6 inch barrel. I could never find one at the right price. I looked at the new S&W model 629 and it was priced too high for my budget. I came across the Taurus 44SS8 in a LGS and it was well within my budget, really did not want the 8 3/8 inch barrel, but the gun felt good and the SA trigger was close to 3 lbs. So I thought about it for a week and went back and put it on lay-a-way. First and only Taurus I own.

I walked into a gun shop one time, with cash in hand, intent on buying a Smith & Wesson Model 586. I didn't even get to look at one, as something else caught my eye. I walked out a little while later with a new Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport.
I did however a short time later, buy that S&W 586.

So, Scoutfish, did you buy the 809 on sale or pass again?

No, the wife says I have to wait for the tax refund to come in. My part is all set, just waiting on a set of her W-2's to come in so we can go to H&R Block. Probably won't be on sale by then, but still cheaper than every other gun shop around.

It's not "if" I buy it, just "when" I can ...as soon as I get my overpayment back.

Almost didn't buy my Beretta 92a1 when I did, because I couldn't afford it. Went to the casino and won the cost of it on roulette. With it being a "dream gun" I have lusted over for a while now, I bought it. :)

So do like several of us have done: Start buying/ordering the pieces, and put it together yourself. It really is easy to assemble, and fun, too.

I went in to buy a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine but they had sold it that morning, came out with a GP100. That was 1993 and I still don't have that Blackhawk.

Yea! I have a little extra taken out each check and sent to the IRS. It is my annual gun money. This year, I am thinking it's going to be an AR.
