Hi from the newb.
I just acquired this revolver and am looking for info. model? age?

Updated:
.357
4" barrel
6 round cylinder
marked TAURUS INTL MFG MIAMI, FLA. MADE IN BRAZIL
S/N is 7 digits (all numeric) starting with 524
There is 66 stamped (not etched) on the frame behind the crane.
The cylinder crane is stamped (not etched) with 41939
The lettering on the barrel spells Brasil with an s
The logos have Taurus lettering much larger than the Brasil
The bull in the logos has long horns, Miura? Like a Lamborghini Logo
The chambers are not recessed.
It has a hammer block safety, no transfer bar.
There is a hole and a screw in the front top of the trigger guard. I thought that was on model 65 but not on model 66 ?

Can anyone share any info? Is this an "old model 66"?

I'm a bit confused with the s/n length and the logo type.

Thanks

Open the cylinder and look for a model number on the frame. I'm betting that there is a "66" stamped on there.

Another disappointing thread title.

I was prepared to answer things like:
Christie Brinkley - 67
Paulina Porizkova - 56
Cheryl Tiegs - 74

Oh well, at least I'm glad you got the information you wanted!

Search for posts made by Erick Tamberg, the op of that thread.
He's posted a lot of useful info all over ta.net
He may see your post and respond.
I hope he does.

I'm trying to compile the info from some of his posts in one place to make it easier to sort through.

I think I'm a bit spoiled with some other makers records with concise s/n data. Seems Taurus built them with no exact scheme or record. Production component change over is a bit blurred. "We'll start the new way today and when the old style parts run out we'll quit using them. In the mean time some new, some old." Rather then using up all the old components first and from this s/n forward the change will be in place.

I'm starting to think even the s/n had an inconsistent format '81 to '88.

I may be wrong, but it appears that way.

This is what I have so far. Is still a work in progress. If you have any additional info please share.

Compiled Taurus history focusing on Model 65 and 66 models.

Data provided by Erick Tamberg of Brazil from previous posts referencing a technical factory manual "Armas Taurus: Uma Garantia de Segurança" by: Domingos Tocchetto and João Alberto Weingaertner available only in Portuguese.

Bold items need further study and do not fit, there may be more errors.

Sorry to disappoint. Still trying to determine age. Someone said some 669s have 66 on the frame. IDK.

Pretty confusing info I'm getting.
My 669 6" .357 has '66' inscribed inside the crane.

It's a Taurus 66 made between November, 1986 and November, 1988.

Serial numbers starting with "5", for .357 Magnum revolvers, were introduced in November, 1986. The digit "5" was merely added before the normal sequence.

Alphanumerical serial numbers started in November, 1988, for K-frame equivalent revolvers.
Just FYI, sharing information.

A few days ago I filled out the online CS form for Taurus asking what happened to their online S/N lookup since there are still links on their other web pages. I mentioned my S/N not really expecting anything. Today, 26JAN2022, I got a response!

Manufacturer: TAURUS INTERNATIONAL MANUFACTURING INC.
Serial: 5243xxx
Model: HG-M66-B4
Description: M 66 4in BL
Document Date: 09/17/1988

I'm not exactly sure what "Document Date" means. Date of manufacture? Date of importation? Date of first sale?
It's not really a huge deal, but I am curious.

Anyone know? Is this an ATF term?

I've emailed back asking. It seems they did keep some records, maybe electronic, when they moved to GA. FWIW, I provided the S/N only. They came back with a matching description on their own.

Probably, the refered "document" is the control of received guns from Brazil by Taurus USA. I noted those dates are about 4 to 6 months after the gun manufacturing.
