Anybody use H322 powder for their .223 AR ? Just got a pound cheap & I have some 55gn FMJBT Sierras. Only load I could find is 21.0 min & 23.0 max from thr Hodgdon site. Any input would help!

5.56 chamber or .223? If 5.56 keep OAL @ 2.200 and use Federal 205M primers
Hodgdon is real good on their data.... but remember all velocities are usually based on 24" barrels
expect velocities to be slower in barrels less than 24". I've noticed the 5.56 chambers like OAL on the short side (1.750 - 2.200 vs 2.250) they group better
Sierra Manual show 22.5 as a start and 24.3 as a Max for H322 and a COAL of 2.250
I like fed 205m primers for extra velocity and accuracy. On my pet load i saw a 50fps increase in velocity and groups went from 1/2" to under .500" by switching from CCI 400 to the match primers but i was using Varget. Just load up and watch for pressure signs. I will be using H322 for my 6.8 when i recieve my upper.... :(

24.2 Grs of my old H-322 gave me a little over 2900 FPS with two different 55 Gr FMJ bullets in a 16" upper. Speer #13 goes to 24.5 Grs H-322. That should get around 3000. They show 3158 from a 22" barrel. Either would make a nice plinking load.

I stopped at 24.2 because I use mixed brass and some cases are heavy and have less volume, running pressures up a bit. I know 24.2 is safe in the heaviest cases I have used. Even still, I eyeball every charge I seat a bullet over for .223 plinking ammo and when I see the random case where the powder is up a lot farther than average, I just toss in in the scrap bin. (I eyeball all charges in all calibers, except .32-20 sometimes, before I seat the bullet.)
