Just purchased a GX2 a little over a week ago. Was in my local Academy Sports and wasn't planning on buying anything. They had the GX2 on sale for $219.99 and then with my Academy card another 5% off. So I said why not. It was $229.66 with tax OTD. Took it out to the range yesterday.
Put 200 rounds of asst. ammo through it. The ammo included: Monarch 115gr steel case, Remington UMC 115gr. FMJ, Federal 115gr FMJ, Winchester Silvertip (New), and Federal HST 124gr HP. Shot at 7yds
Had 2 jams, both with Silvertips. One failed to feed and one fail to extract. Extractor pulled off the case.
Accuracy was all over the target. ( Partly due to arthritic hand and stiff trigger).
Most of the FMJ shot slightly to the left and high and low.
Silver tip shot high and right. Group was better than any FMJ.
Had 35 rounds of HST. Shot a little low and a little left. Best grouping of any other. About 2" with a lot touching.
found the rear sight was slightly to the left from the factory. Tapped it over when I got home. Was fairly easy to do with a brass punch and hammer.
Ergonomics: Feels great in my hand. Not a lot of muzzle flip. Tends to recoil straight back.
For a low priced gun , not bad at all. I think once the trigger smooths out the accuracy will improve.

For 230 OTD I'd be all over one too

I found most of the new Taurus pistols I've bought recently have been a little off out of the box with the rear sight but they tap over easily

First, Glad to have you join us on the forum

Second, good choice, particularly with the price. Clean that new gun, and maybe give the feed-ramp a little polish, and you are good to go.

Most failures are shooter induced. Did you clean and lube it before you shot it, did you clean and lube the breech face and extractor, did you clean the magazines, were they loaded to capacity or minus one, are you right handed, if so how’s your grip and trigger control and could that account for POI, were you limp wristing it, did you slingshot the slide or drop it with the slide release, etc? Give it a chance to wear in.

I’ve got a relatively new G3 (approximately 800 rounds) and never had any malfunctions of any kind with it, but I cleaned and lubed it before shooting. I’ve also got a new GX4 with about 200 rounds through it. The first time I shot the GX4, it was new out of the box and not cleaned and lubed. I had two failures to load when dropping the slide with the slide release, on a full magazine. The rounds failed to slide up the breech face and under the extractor. Both times this happened when dropping the slide with a full mag on reload. If the gun and magazines had been cleaned before shooting and the followers given a light film of oil and if I had cleaned the gun first and left one round out of the magazine until the gun had a hundred rounds or so through it, I doubt I would have had those failures. Since then, I probably have another 300 rounds through the GX4, FMG and JHP, and I have not had another failure of any kind. The last time I shot it, I ran it hard and fast with no problems. Neither of my feed ramps have been polished and I don’t think I’m just lucky. Taurus gets a bad rap because some folks want to whine when the problems they experience are shooter induced or could have been prevented (not saying yours are, just speaking in general). Understand how it works and give it what it needs. I know that kind of knowledge comes with experience.

If you had the extractor rip the rim off a case, it may have some rough reaming rings in the chamber or it may have just been dirty from proof test firing. Look at the chamber and if it doesn’t look nice and smooth, give it a polish. Or, just shoot it enough to break it in, it will smooth out some eventually.

The GX2 was cleaned and lubed before shooting the first time. the mags were fully loaded for 2 days prior to shooting.
The Failure to feed was a mag with only 7 rounds of silvertip and used the slide release. Failure to extract round had a small mark from the extractor on it and fed fine and extracted when put back in the mag. I did check the barrel breach. The ramp looks good and the breach is smooth and somewhat shiny. I plan on polishing them both. I also checked the dimensions on the Sivertips vs the HSTs. They are the almost the same dimensions. I even took the gun apart and dropped a Sivertip in the barrel and when I turned it over, it fell out. I had no problems with the HSTs. I even took 1 mag fully loaded with HSTs and dumped it into the berm as fast as I could pull the trigger. No Problems.
I also own a GX4 with about 800 rounds through it. It has never jammed with anything including JHP.
I will just keep shooting it and see if the problem happens again. And I did check the extractor. It looks good.

It sounds like typical wear-in issues. I apologize if my post offended you. My recent experiences with Taurus lately have been very good and it’s annoying to hear so many people bad mouth Taurus over minor issues that as I said, are often user induced. Your pistol will likely smooth out and run flawlessly, just like mine have. I read about pistols from what are considered the major name brands having similar issues and nobody condemns the brand as junk. Be well and shoot straight.

IzaWildman. I was not offended, just wanted to show you that I had gone over a lot of things you talked about. For all you know, I was a newbee. You brought up a good point about not having a proper grip. I have had to modify my grip from multiple surgeries on my right hand including having a fused thumb at the middle joint. I settled on a modified Weaver grip that has worked well. A lot of jams do come from someone not holding the gun properly.

Haven't got a chance to go back to the range yet. Found a Video online about complete disassembly of a GX4 slide, so I thought it would work for the GX2 and it did. Tore apart the GX2 Slide and couldn't believe all the crud in the extractor.
Cleaned all the opening in the slide, the extractor, firing pin block and firing pin channel. ( Pipe Cleaners work great). Reassembled. Then I thought I should do the same to my GX4. Found that there was only about 25% the crud in the GX4 with 800 rounds though it, than the GX2 with only 200 rounds through it. I am wondering if the Crud in the GX2 was from the factory.
I don't know how i only had one extraction problem in 200 rounds. I should have taken pictures but didn't. Before disassembly, you could hear grinding sounds when moving the extractor. I will try another 200 rounds the next time I can go to the range and let you know what happens.

Forgot to put in yesterdays post that I also used my Dremel tool with a felt wheel and polishing compound on the barrel feed ramp on the GX2. It now has a mirror finish. I also now consider myself as an expert in G series slide disassembly.
That expertise includes launching the extractor pin and tiny spring from my GX4 across the room. I finally found them using a high intensity flashlight. They were 8 ft. apart. Very lucky I found them. So, if you take your slide apart, be very careful, as Taurus won't sell you any parts from what I have heard. 😁

If Taurus pistols find even 25% of the parts support of Glock they'd do way better

I still have that pervasive thought that if I crack an extractor or get a defective firing pin in a Taurus I'm pretty much beat vs being able to find the equivalent Glock part online in 30 seconds and having it in my mailbox in 2-4 days

Shop Taurus has been sold out of G3 recoil spring assemblies for months, this is a basic replacement part. Not everyone wants to use Glock RSAs like I do

Academy Sporting Goods had a deal a few year back for the Taurus PT111 G2.
With that purchase you were given a Heritage Rough Rider 22...N/C.
Out of the box it had an issue of not going back into battery after a shot.
The recoil spring was very weak and left the slide about 1//4" to 3/8" short of closing.
I did a bit of research and found out that wasn't too unusual for that model and Taurus would gladly repair it.
But it was a brand new firearm and I didn't want to send it away for a month or more for a repair.
I then found Lakeline who sold the recoil assembly and just bought that.....and it took care of the problem and it never arose again.
I did contact Taurus and told them what I did and asked if they could reimburse me for my cost of the new assembly.
The flatly said no, that wasn't their policy.....but immediately asked for my address and sent me a new magazine for the pistol....which more than covered the cost of the recoil assembly.
I was happy with their offer and that pistol is still one of my favorite shooters.
I do not know how it compares to the current G2, but I know that the size and weight are very close.
It's a bit wider than I want to carry....so I did get a GX4 last year which I also like very much.
I know a lot of people like to crap on Taurus for their quality and service.....but I can't say anything bad about them.
I've had good luck with all of my Taurus pistols.
PT38S, TX22, GX4 and the PT111 G2.
And since I started reloading the shooting experience has only improved.
