I would love to find a good gunsmith inside two hours from me. I live in central Virginia and thee is no shortage of gun owners here but oddly lacking in smiths.
Gunsmith
I have been staying at my daughter's for the last few days and while her and her husband were at work I done some looking around town with my grandson and came across a Gun Bait and Tackle shop with a pretty reputable gunsmith in that area according to my SIL so I dropped my 1911 9mm off with him to properly fit the slide to the barrel and frame If needed the pistol shoots great but it was hard to rack the slide although it shoots and functions good while fireing it I knew something wasn't just right. Anyway I'm glad to have finally found a gunsmith that's not out of the way because I'm either going over there to visit or the kids are coming over here. Plus the Gunsmith has a cabin over here on the lake and he said he would deliver the gun to me next Saturday when he comes up here so you can't beat that

I'm very fortunate to have a top rated gunsmith and builder less than a mile from me. He is an Ex Marine Sniper and Long Range Shooter and Coach and builds some of the best Long Range Competition Rifles available. He has gotten too well know and only opens his shop from 1 to 5 PM Tuesday thru Friday unless you make a prior appointment. Sounds odd but he has so much work he couldn't get anything done with people always asking for him in the shop.

Good find, I am eagerly awaiting the new range report! The guy I use is about 26 miles away (40 minutes) and not really on the way to anywhere. So far though all he's done for me is to work on my PT1911 and the Marlin 1894.
There's no gunsmiths because there's no money in it that makes the hassle worthwhile.
Too many people in need of gun repair have the attitude that they should pay next to nothing (or free) for the service, while not caring about the expenses in keeping a smithy open.
I won't even guess the number of very competent gunsmiths that have either gone out of business or found that they could make a better living (with less hassle and expense) doing something else with their skills. Frankly, I don't blame them for leaving.

He's in Spring Grove about 5 miles from the WI border....I looked at the tax records and it looks like he's still there. Maybe 40 minutes from Delavan. Shoot me a PM if you want his phone contact.
Finding a good gunsmith is like finding gold. Both are hard to find and worth a lot.
