Do gun manufacturers provide a pre-tested unit for these tests, or do the testers buy them off the shelf like everybody else?

Should this 3.5 inch barrel really give only two thirds of the average .45 muzzle energy listed on Wikipedia (5 inches)?Devildog341 said:Gun Tests magazine put out its best for 2007 and the PT-145 was included.
Taurus Millennium PT145 Pro SS
No. 145SSP .45 ACP, $421
Reviewed: January 2007
Average muzzle energy was about 261 foot-pounds for all three choices of test ammunition.
I have always heard it is recommended that short barrel .45s should shoot a lower grain bullet in hopes that it will give it some extra velocity to make up for the short barrel. I carry 185gr gold dot in my PT 145 and practice with various brands, but all 185gr (sometimes 230). I don't know the numbers on the 185gr gold dots, however.JimL said:Should this 3.5 inch barrel really give only two thirds of the average .45 muzzle energy listed on Wikipedia (5 inches)?
